Infrastructure Assessment & Cloud Migration Expert Advice
It's not just about discovery when we conduct a free onsite infrastructure assessment with AWS OLA. It's about making the analysis productive right away - by advising you on cloud migration and cloud-native applications.
Amazon Web Services' AWS Optimization and Licensing Assessment (AWS OLA) was launched at the end of last year. As an AWS Advanced Partner, we have been using the OLA program for our customers since March 2023. The experience from several customer projects shows that it is absolutely worthwhile to use the analysis software to estimate the costs for a Lift&Shift scenario. Our own services go far beyond the mere discovery of servers, applications, usage and licenses (especially Microsoft licenses). For us, the focus of an OLA project is always on the benefits our customers can derive from it for their cloud strategy. Shifting costs from capital expenditure (in-house servers) to operational expenditure (cloud services) often has significant benefits.

Our special OLA consulting package: complete, competent and free of charge
Our OLA package isn't just free, we make sure you're covered. Our services include setting up the AWS OLA software, analyzing your IT, and advising you on how to make the best use of the insights it provides. We believe it is critical that after the analysis is complete, we help you plan your migration and move to the cloud. We also show you your options for cloud-native applications. We are not limited to the AWS cloud - we have expertise in many strong technologies and a strong ecosystem with other partners such as Google Cloud or Microsoft Azure.

Comprehensive inventory of your IT infrastructure
Our AWS OLA analysis project, including infrastructure assessment and migration recommendations, typically requires three to five person days at Arvato Systems and half a person day at the analyzed company. Experience shows that AWS OLA analysis is worthwhile if your IT infrastructure is at least 100 servers or virtual machines in size. First, we install the OLA software in your data center. The process starts with an inventory of your IT infrastructure. The OLA analysis captures all of your servers, applications, licenses, and workloads. The AWS OLA report reports on each of your machines-and immediately shows you what types of instances they would look like if you were to migrate them to the AWS cloud.
Not Uncommon: 30% Of Servers Unused, 40% Oversized
Especially if you have servers with quite low utilization, for example because virtual machines are often switched off for a long time, the AWS OLA analysis provides very interesting insights. Over a period of four to six weeks, we provide you with weekly Quick Insight Reports - in the form of a short DIN A4 summary. At the end of our analysis project, there is a detailed presentation of the results. But this doesn't just include your infrastructure assessment - we also present the opportunities that a cloud migration opens up in your specific case. The inventory may reveal, for example, that a company is perhaps not using 30 percent of its servers at all, while another 40 percent of its servers are underutilized and therefore oversized. Experience shows that when a company has between 200 and 1,000 servers, there is a risk that a distinct shadow IT has grown over time. That's why our subsequent cloud readiness analysis serves to determine what of your infrastructure you can switch off, what is better moved to the cloud - and which of your applications it makes sense to lift into the cloud.

Is Your MS Volume License Agreement a Good Fit?
Whether you run Microsoft or Linux servers: With OLA Analysis, we can quickly show you whether the number of Microsoft licenses matches the number included in your Volume Licensing Agreement. Additional components, such as SQL Server, are also interesting because they are licensed per CPU core - but their number is often actually lower than the number specified in the contract. By the way, many Microsoft volume licensing contracts can be continued in the AWS cloud. However, it is important that the corresponding License Mobility is already anchored in the existing Microsoft Volume Licensing contract and an active maintenance contract with Microsoft is in place.

Take Advantage of Arvato Systems’ Unique Cloud Readiness Analysis.
Knowing which IT infrastructure is not needed in the company or is underutilized reveals the first savings potential. Infrastructure assessment is the first immediate benefit of AWS OLA analysis. However, we take an OLA analysis project one step further by delivering a Cloud Readiness Analysis that shows you which workloads are worth migrating to the cloud. Our analysis also shows you which applications will benefit most from a cloud-native approach. Our OLA project is more than an inventory - it shows you the way forward for your IT.
