The UK government's Science and Technology Committee has started an inquiry into the #CyberResilience of the country's #CriticalNationalInfrastructure (CNI). The inquiry will assess progress toward achieving resilience targets by 2025, and government standards and regulations for cyber resilience. The increasing number of #CyberThreats to the UK's #CNI have made this an area of particular concern.?

@The British Library is grappling with the after-effects of a cyber incident, which began on the 28th October. A technology outage has affected its website, online services, phone lines, and on-site services including public Wi-Fi. While the cause of the incident remains uncertain, ransomware is suspected - and at the time of writing, the library’s website is still down.

The Associated Press (AP) may have fallen victim to the hacking gang Anonymous Sudan, a group that’s claimed responsibility for high-profile distributed denial of service (DDoS) attacks. Some #CyberSecurity experts believe #AnonymousSudan may be a group of Russian hackers posing as hacktivists, and they’ve recently. They have carried out #DDoSAttacks against @Microsoft, @X, @Paypal, and even government portals.?

Germany emerged as the winner of the 2023 European Cybersecurity Challenge (ECSC) last week, with Switzerland in second place and Denmark in third. The competition, which was hosted by the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU), featured 34 teams from EU member states, EFTA countries, and guest teams from various nations - and aims to encourage young individuals to pursue careers in cyber security.

An alliance of 40 countries set to attend the International Counter-Ransomware Initiative summit in Washington, D.C., will pledge to cease paying ransoms demanded by #CyberCriminal groups. The initiative aims to tackle the growing global ransomware threat - there was a record 514 attacks reported in September. The pledge highlights the international community's determination to combat #Ransomware by targeting its financial support.

The global cyber security workforce gap has grown to four million - a 12.6% increase from 2022, according to the @ISC2 2023 Cybersecurity Workforce Study. 92% of professionals surveyed reported skills gaps in their organisations, with 67% facing a shortage of cyber security staff. The study also revealed that #InsiderThreats have increased, with 52% of respondents experiencing incidents related to malicious insiders.?

A total of 28 countries, including several EU members, the US, the UK, China, and Saudi Arabia, all signed the Bletchley Declaration during the UK's AI Safety Summit on 1st November. This international agreement addresses the development of AI, and focuses on AI safety risks and building advocating for increased transparency by private companies.

The recent ISC2 2023 Cybersecurity Workforce Study has revealed a pressing global cyber security skills gap. This widening gap underscores the urgent need for organisations to invest in their cyber security defences. Two thirds have reported shortages in cyber security staff, and this is despite an 8.7% increase in the global cyber security workforce - now totaling 5.5 million professionals.
