Be informed about emergencies
Given the recent hurricane hitting Texas and another looming off the coast of Florida, I wanted to pass along information that could save your life. It could be too late before you are warned of a flash flood, active shooter or other event. You should be informed and have a plan.
While attending the Panama City Beach Rotary last week Mark Bowen of Bay County Emergency operations spoke. The entire meeting is available on the Rotary Facebook page linked above.
When Mark spoke, he was very passionate about being informed and having a plan. I wanted to help him pass the word along by sharing the AlertBay.org system. I honestly did not know this existed until his talk with us.
I have signed up for the Alert Bay and it took me about 3 minutes to do. You can set the alerts to your area and needs. This is for Bay County Florida. if you live outside our county, please check with your emergency management service for your own options.
Warning: The Username is Case Sensitive when you log in. pay attention to what you typed for your username.
People I have spoken to who already have registered for this service tell me that they are not spammed by this system in any way. This was an area of concern for me as well since I get a lot of text messages already. When you get too many, they become white noise.
We live in a great time where we can have helpful communications like this. Please sign up so you know what to do in an emergency.
