Information Technology is revolutionizing Agriculture

Agriculture information and communication technology (ICT), often known as e-agriculture, focuses on improving agricultural and rural development through enhanced information and communication procedures. Specifically, e-agricultural entails the conception, design, development, assessment, and deployment of clever ways to employ information and communication technologies (ICTs) in the rural sector, with an emphasis on agriculture.

ICT covers a broad range of devices, networks, mobiles, services, and applications, ranging from cutting-edge Internet-era technology and sensors to more traditional aids like fixed telephones, TVs, radios, and satellites. E-agriculture includes the provision of standards, norms, techniques, and tools, as well as the development of human and institutional skills and policy support.

In advanced economies, the use of ICT in agriculture has had a considerable impact on agriculture and farming on a smaller scale. The Internet of Things (IoT), Cloud Computing, and Big Data have all had a significant influence on current process efficiency. Several farm holdings use sensing technology, drones, and other equipment to collect essential data on soil qualities, air, crop health, and weather conditions to manage farms remotely. Farmers and agribusinesses may utilize the data to keep a close eye on crop production, optimize the use of agrochemicals and natural resources, and swiftly respond to changing environmental circumstances. Increased efficiency and lower costs have emerged from the use of ICTs and precision agricultural equipment. It has also provided decision-making tools to assist enhance agricultural output and handling natural disasters

Some of the primary areas where ICT in agriculture plays an important role are as follows:

1. Regulatory policy and governance: The widespread use of digital technology by agriculturists has resulted in an exponential increase in the availability of a wide variety of big data that may aid in enhanced policy-making and monitoring, as well as transform the agricultural business.

2. Capacity building and empowerment: Information and communication technologies (ICTs) are crucial educational tools for local community development. They broaden the reach of women, youth, and other beneficiaries, as well as provide new business opportunities, helping them to enhance their living conditions and wages.

3. Improved market access: By transmitting information from merchants, ICT-enabled market information services increase farmers' access to and comprehension of nearby marketplaces.
