Information Systems - Part 4

Information Systems - Part 4

So where were we up to?!

If I can't remember, unlikely you do!

To recap we were discussing how "Data is your brakes"!

Of course that went along with a picture of a "modest" Lamborghini, which may not, or may yes (please don't comment on that!!) be your car, BUT the point was that even with the most fast powered, advanced and luxurious engine, if you didn't fix or check on your brakes, your car is pretty much totaled! IF you are lucky you live to tell the tale please make sure to comment and let me know I was right!

But for those of us in our regular functional cars what I mean to say with this example is that you can have the best employees, most innovative product and even perhaps a tremendous amount of revenue, but if you don't have the DATA to understand what is happening, where everything is going and overall, how are you doing, you WILL FALL OFF THE CLIFF!!

And yet, again if for some obscene reason, you do remember my previous posts (don't worry, I will put them in the comments so you can pretend you did ), you would recall that I also wrote about DATA is your biggest ASSET and can ultimately have the highest ROI!

Hmm

So is Data your brakes or is your engine?

I could say it is both, and then just make everyone who is sweating and working at every other job other than Data probably unfollow me and just tell me I am full of garbage...

OR

I could be honest and say that no, Data is not your primary engine. It does not negate the need for employees in Sales, Finance, Operations and Productions. I don't believe AI will take over the world and with the right amount of Data and all the correct systems, all humans (except of course those involved in Data) will become useless.

You need good employees. You need to sell a good service or have a valuable product. You need leadership and you need equipment. And of course, you need FUEL - aka CASH.

But besides being your brakes, Data is your blueprint, Data is your manual and Data is your GPS.

It tells you WHAT you need, HOW to operate and ultimately WHERE to head.

It tells you WHO to hire, WHAT to produce and WHO to sell it to.

WHERE to go, WHEN to stop and HOW to change.

You may be, and I am sure you are, extremely bright, but running a business isn't going to a casino. There is risk that is inevitable, but there is a LOT of RISK that is predictable and REWARD that is attainable with the right data, given to the right people and the right times. Accurately, Efficiently, Succinctly and Consistently.

Did I convince you yet? Let me know and stay tuned for more!!
