Information Systems - Page 3!

This article is way too long. ??

Okay, let's recap.

We are discussing the transformation of data to a company's most valuable asset.

Last week, we discussed the general questions you need to ask in regard to the resources and risks relative to your data.

Now let's dive into some specifics.

Do you have a Data Department?

If yes, how many employees currently are involved in that department?

What are the background of those employees - is it all technical?

Who understands the data they are working with - what it means and how it relates to the business?

Is your data modelled or do you just always perform ETL?

(aka dump out the trash can, sort through everything, pull out the few valuables, wash them up, put them in a nice basket and present them back to the owners)

Who validates the data? And then who audits the validation?

And then what is the strategy process on how to consistently maintain better data.

Woah! I bored you. That's is so overboard. Isn't it?

I mean, if I am raking in the revenue, how important can all this other stuff really be?

Well, do you like cars?

Nice cars? Racing Cars?

Honestly, I don't care for them. But I do know the basics.

No matter how powerful your engine is, without brakes, YOU WILL CRASH.

Data is your brakes!!! No matter how fast you are growing and bringing in those sales, without the data behind them, you are flying blind, you have no steering wheel and no brakes, and ultimately you will fly off a cliff.

So BRAKE. This is too nice of a car to lose!

STAY TUNED FOR MORE!
