A whimsical look in the mirror about we (try) to do

Information Security

A paradox in two words.

Einstein and Niels Bohr went back and forth in a very entertaining, intense, and very important academic arguments – rather famous quotes – the one that resonates here is where Bohr (quantum physics) finally gets Einstein (Newton’s Law of the Big) to admit, the paradox between the two. [Paraphrasing Bohr to Einstein] “Good we have a paradox, there is hope for progress!” His point was it creates “motion” to resolve the problem.

Now I am not getting too high-browed about this, but our very career’s is in fact that same paradox, in two words. “Information Security” Tasked to provide information, to the right people, and the right time, under the right circumstances, under the right conditions, in the right place, on the right device, and endless other run time criteria, audit, remediation, etc.  So, I would challenge colleagues to consider, is the paradox facing our industry is equal to two genius arguments, about the conflict of the law of the big and the unpredictability of the small? Where is the balance, where is the unification of one to the other? Dare I say the stage is the same? I do. I’ve bitten my tongue and bottom lip more than a few times over these past couple of years, but it’s time. To take you behind the scenes. Anyone think the making of “Blues Brothers, Caddy shack, GBU, etc.” are as entertaining as the actual films themselves?  Get ready! So, I have decided, there is a paradox, so we have an opportunity for motion and in the same “Martian” format, and because I am at my wits end, tonight, I will continue this in a blog format.  You solve one problem, then you do the math and you solve another, and when you solve enough, you get to come home.
