2023 Safety Award winners celebrated in Edmonton with Family Fun Day

Trimac was thrilled to welcome employees and their families to its Edmonton Service Centre on Sunday, May 26, 2024, for the second annual Family Fun Day and to celebrate the location's Safety Award Winners.

For the year 2023, the Edmonton, Alberta (Sulphur) branch won the Maurice McCaig Safety Award for the branch with zero injuries and the most hours worked in the over 50,000 hours category

In 2018, the inaugural Maurice McCaig Safety Award was created in honour of Trimac's former Chair of the Health, Safety, Security and Environment Committee, to recognize the branch with zero injuries and the most hours worked. All Truckline, National Tank Services and Bulk Plus Logistics branches are eligible for this award. Remarkably, the Edmonton, Alberta - Sulphur branch is the first in Trimac history to win the Fewest Injuries award in this category three years in a row!

“I’m very proud to be up here and part of this team to highlight and celebrate the branch personnel and especially the drivers for this extraordinary accomplishment,” said Kevin Hames, Assistant Area Manager. “Our Sulphur branch 114 based out of here in Edmonton and Fort McMurray has won the Maurice McCaig Safety Award for zero injuries and most hours worked in the over 50,000 hours work category. You folks all need to be very proud of yourselves as not only did we win this award for our accomplishments in 2023, but this is also our third year in a row doing so. Such an incredible achievement and is something we all should be very proud of. As well as the drivers, we also want to recognize the work from all of our safety/field reps, dispatch and management who played large rolls in helping to keep everyone safe throughout the year.”

VP Safety Alex Guariento was on site to hand out the awards and commend the team for their efforts.

Between 250 and 350 people attended the Family Fun Day at the Edmonton Service Centre on Sunday. The event featured games, food and activities for all ages, creating a festive atmosphere as employees and their families celebrated the safety achievements together.

The funds raised from the dunk tank were donated to the Second Chance Animal Rescue Society (SCARS), supporting their efforts to provide care and shelter for animals in need. SCARS also brought adoptable pets to the event to raise awareness for animal rescues in need.

Congratulations to all the employees, drivers, independent contractors, and management teams who contributed to this accomplishment. This performance demonstrates a true commitment to Trimac's core value of safety.

Calgary headquarters volunteers decorate Smile Cookies for charity

Last week, a few team members from Calgary head office rolled up their sleeves to spread some joy by volunteering with the Calgary Drop-In Centre and Tim Hortons . The volunteer opportunity, organized in collaboration with the United Way of Calgary and Area , aimed to support charitable organizations in the community. Participants had the chance to decorate Smile Cookies at a nearby Tim Hortons, with proceeds going towards the Calgary Drop-In Centre's vital work in caring for chronically homeless individuals through community support, resources and housing.

Throughout the week-long event, two volunteers per day enthusiastically adorned cookies with colourful frosting and cheerful designs, all in the spirit of giving back to those in need. Their efforts not only raised funds for a worthy cause but also brought smiles to the faces of both volunteers and recipients alike. By coming together to support the Calgary Drop-In Centre, Trimac exemplified the company's commitment to making a positive impact in the communities where they live and work.

Thank you to our volunteers—your smiles made a huge difference! We look forward to exploring more opportunities to support our communities alongside the United Way of Calgary and Area, and other chapters across Canada and the US.

Team building through community service: Calgary's accounting team takes part in cleanup day

Trimac’s Accounting team in Calgary participated in a meaningful team-building exercise that not only strengthened their bond but also significantly contributed to the cleanliness of the community. This initiative, which involved 14 team members and their children, was part of the City of Calgary’s annual Community Cleanup event on May 10.

The cleanup day was undertaken as a way to foster team spirit while engaging in a socially responsible activity. The team managed to collect six bags of garbage in the NW community of Sherwood.

"Today was a beautiful day for strengthening the bonds within our accounting team here in Calgary, as we looked for meaningful ways to support our community," said Suzanne Delisle, Director of Corporate Accounting, of the day's outcome.

In 2021, the Community Cleanup program was particularly successful, removing over one million kilograms of waste and organic material, totaling 1,091,058 kg. Items typically collected during these events include furniture like desks and sofas, old mattresses, toilets and broken recreational products.

By participating in the cleanup, the accounting team experienced the personal and collective satisfaction that comes from giving back to their community. This event exemplifies how we can engage in community service that has a lasting impact on both the environment and team dynamics.

The City of Calgary collaborates with community associations and volunteers annually to facilitate these cleanup events, which run on weekends until September. During these cleanups, the city provides essential resources such as three packer trucks with crews, funds for advertising and promotion, and personal protective equipment including face coverings, sanitizer, gloves and garbage bags.

Trimac named Grand Award winner in 2023 North American Safety Contest

Trimac is thrilled to announce its achievement as a Grand Award winner in the Class 1 for-hire fleet category of the 2023 North American Safety Contest. This prestigious recognition underscores Trimac’s commitment to maintaining the highest standards of safety within the tank truck industry.

The North American Safety Contest is an integral part of NTTC's efforts to promote safety and excellence among tank truck operations across North America. Competing against numerous respected carriers, Trimac has distinguished itself by advancing to the final stage in the Class 1 category for for-hire carriers.

Trimac took home the Heil Trophy back in 2019 and has been a Grand Award winner multiple times since.

“Being named a finalist is a great honour and reflects the relentless dedication of our team towards safety,” said Alex Guariento, Vice President of Safety at Trimac.

The path to becoming a finalist involved a rigorous evaluation process, beginning with applications and audits early in the year, followed by intense judging rounds. This structured approach ensures that all contenders are thoroughly assessed on their safety protocols and performance.

Achieving Grand Award finalist status in the North American Safety Contest not only enhances Trimac's reputation within the industry but also strengthens trust among stakeholders and clients. It positions Trimac as a leader in safety, setting a high benchmark for others in the sector. Additionally, the data and metrics gathered through this contest serve as a potent advocacy tool, shaping legislative and policy decisions at a national level.

It is thanks to the hard work and dedication of our teams across Canada and the United States that this achievement has been made possible. As Trimac prepares for the final announcement at the NTTC Annual Conference, the company continues to focus on its safety initiatives, driving forward with the goal of not just winning awards, but also setting the gold standard for safety in the tank truck industry.
