The Information Age is Ending and the Intelligence Age has Begun

It’s difficult to wrap your head around the idea that we’re living through the death of one era and the birth of another.
But that’s exactly what’s happening.
For the past 50 years, we’ve been living in the information age. A period that marked the birth of the computer, the internet and social media.
We watched as the information ‘gatekeepers’ lose control and for a feating moment, freedom and opportunity in the world expanded.
Replaced shortly by a new group of gatekeepers who continue to fight against independent voices.
Social media and video conferencing promised to connect us in ways we never thought possible…and it has.
But it’s also left us feeling lonelier and more depressed than ever before.
1 in 4 Americans classify themselves as “very lonely”.
That’s not shocking when you consider a recent study found that 37% of people say they don’t interact with anyone at least one day a week.
The more time we spend scrolling the more we crave human connection.
But you don’t need me to tell you that. You feel it yourself.
It’s one of the reasons you read this letter. It’s a way for you and I to connect. A way for us to have a shared experience.
Now the information age is ending, giving way to the intelligence age.
This new era, marked by quantum computing and artificial intelligence will bring massive advancements in productivity and standards of living.
Virtual reality will create new worlds for us to inhabit.
AI and robotics will create amazing ‘near-human’ companions to help with everything from construction to nursing care.
But there will also be negatives.
Setting aside the doomsday predictions about a robot revolt, one thing AI is sure to do is mimic humans online.
We already see crude versions of it in the form of bots. Soon the internet and social media in particular will be flooded with ‘content’ all produced entirely by AI.
X (formally Twitter) gets around 500 million posts a day. Most of them from humans.

Now imagine a social media environment where X gets 500 million posts a minute. There’s no reason to believe this isn’t coming.
At a time when human connection is needed the most…it will be the hardest to find.
How do you stay ahead of these changes?
It’s possible everything I’ve written here today will turn out to be wrong. Or it could be more dramatic than anyone has predicted.
What I know is that if you want to stand out in a world of fake people, fake emotions and fake connections you must focus on delivering the human experience people crave.

While everyone else is using AI avatars to showcase a flawless version of themselves, you’ll show up, warts and all. Because that’s what people will crave.
