Company of the week
A-Alpha Bio is a biotechnology company that is using synthetic biology and machine learning to measure, discover, predict, and engineer protein-protein interactions. Protein-protein interactions (PPIs) are essential for all cellular processes, and they play a role in many diseases. A-Alpha Bio's platform, AlphaSeq, is the most scalable and sensitive PPI measurement system available today. It can measure millions of PPIs at a time, which is orders of magnitude faster than traditional methods. This allows A-Alpha Bio to generate the high-throughput data needed to discover new drugs and therapies for a wide range of diseases.
A-Alpha Bio was founded in 2017 by David Younger and Randolph Lopez , who are both synthetic biology researchers at the University of Washington. The company is headquartered in Seattle, Washington.
A-Alpha Bio’s computational tools, AlphaSeq and AlphaBind, work together to measure and analyze protein-protein interactions. AlphaSeq uses genetic engineering and DNA sequencing to generate its massive dataset. This feeds into AlphaBind, which uses machine learning to predict new protein sequences with desired binding properties.
Last month they raised $22.4 million to boost development of their machine learning platform that analyses protein-protein interactions. In a recent interview CEO David Younger said “Machine learning successes across the industry are valuable proof-points for the power of machine learning applied to biological problems and drive considerable interest into companies like ours. The Series A extension will help the company capitalize on “significant growth” and provide additional runway to hit certain milestones before raising more funding"
Huge congratulations to David Younger Randolph Lopez and the whole A-Alpha Bio team on the milestone!! Exciting times ahead!!
Collaboration of the week
DNAnexus the leading provider of cloud-based genomic and biomedical data access and companion analysis software, this week announced a collaboration with BigOmics Analytics a Swiss biomedical data analysis company. As part of the agreement, BigOmics’ collaborative analysis environment, Omics Playground, is now available on the DNAnexus precision health data platform, providing customers with a fully integrated solution to better understand large-scale proteomics and transcriptomics data.
DNAnexus is the data cloud for precision health, allowing researchers to store, access, and explore large sets of proteomic, transcriptomic, genomic, phenotypic, imaging, and other structured data. The Omics Playground platform offers an interactive interface with intuitive visualization and interpretation tools for exploring gene and protein expression activity patterns. Biologists can easily and quickly analyze their experimental data, while bioinformaticians can offload repetitive tasks. Moreover, organizations benefit from reduced overhead costs and the fostering of a data-driven scientific culture. Omics Playground standardizes the data analysis process, ensuring the delivery of robust and reproducible results.
About BigOmics Analytics
BigOmics Analytics a Swiss company, envisions democratizing biomedical data analysis in digital healthcare to accelerate scientific discoveries in medicine. Its comprehensive platform empowers biologists with intelligent analysis software, enabling effortless omics data exploration. Through its collaborative analysis platform, researchers can interactively share data and insights, fostering efficient collaboration.
Notably, BigOmics expedites tertiary analysis, reducing bioinformaticians' routine tasks, and freeing them for more complex challenges. Additionally, biologists gain direct interaction with their experimental data, further enhancing collaboration dynamics. With a strong commitment to accessibility, BigOmics Analytics already supports over 1,000 life scientists, aiming to make advanced omics analysis universally attainable.?For more info on Big Omics Analytics follow the link https://bigomics.ch/
