?Uefa has unveiled the tools being used over the next four weeks, including an updated VAR protocol and AI-enabled semi-automated offside technology (SAOT) for faster, more accurate referrals of on-field decisions. Adidas connected ball technology is also available for the first time, with sensors in each Fussballliebe Pro identifying player touches that will be crucial in offside, handball and penalty decisions.

These tiny sensors, which are attached to the skin to track blood sugar levels, were originally developed for diabetes sufferers, but manufacturers like Abbott and Dexcom are using elite sport to trial wider potential use cases in fitness and wellness.

With Paris 2024 organisers omitting energy-intensive air-conditioning from the Athletes Village for environmental reasons, Olympians will turn to other methods to regulate their body temperature in the height of the French summer. These include the CoolMitt, a mitten-like device designed at Stanford University, which helps extract heat through the hand so cooler blood can be circulated back to the heart and the athlete's muscles.

Spiideo Captures $20 Million Investment

Spiideo, a Swedish company that offers AI-powered tools for cheaper video production and distribution for sports teams, has raised $20 million in a funding round led by Munich-based growth equity firm Cipio Partners. It will now target expansion beyond its multi-tier client base of 4,000 teams across 6,000 venues in 60 countries.?

The Spiideo Play offering features automated camera operation alongside cloud-based broadcasting and live-streaming, while the Spiideo Platform incorporates a further multi-angle sports video analysis tool with live game and player data. Spiideo works with top-tier football clubs like Brentford and Inter Milan, as well as the National Women’s Soccer League.

Golf club operations software solution Whoosh Inc has closed a $10.3 million Series A funding round, led by AlleyCorp. Former NFL star Larry Fitzgerald and tennis icon Andy Roddick joined institutional investors for the latest buy-in.?

Whoosh will use the resources to evolve its product and grow further into public/daily-fee clubs, alternative golf facilities, resorts and other ‘eatertainment’ venues.
