Infographics in Education
Infographics can be used by students of all learning styles. The visual is obvious, but the auditory and kinesthetic can also grasp a better understanding of the material as well.
The information is arranged on the graphic that shows a relationship. When the students can see how the information fits into an overall picture, orchestration or situation, it helps the students understand the context of all the pieces.
For the auditory student, they will want to read all the labels, notes and numbers. They may use the infographic like a mind map where the data is arranged in a tree of data.
The kinesthetic student will want to look at the relationship of the different representations and will gain value from the difference in size and the use of color to create a sense of weight or importance.
When using or selecting infographics, remember these three aspects to acquire effective representations. Remember that each person is not limited to only one mode, but has some amount of all three. This will help cut down on short-term memory cramming for tests and encourage long-term understanding.
