This summer "Influence, Biennale du Textile Contemporain" will be the first event of it's kind in France... An exhibition showcasing textile heritage, savoir faire, design and innovation. This show will not be focusing on fashion, but celebrating the way the textile industry, or individuals working with textiles can be creative in a sustainable manner. The programme is definitely worth investigating.

Yesterday I was invited to a presentation of the fair at the Edelkoort Gallery in Paris, where Lidewij Edelkoort gave us an avant premier of the exhibition, "Earth Matters" that she will present at "Influence".
Edelkoort wants to see fashion become more sustainable, and to encourage people to think about the source of materials and the creation process: her exhibit will promote the work of a number of artists and designers which are truly inspirational.
Here is a taster:
Alix Bizet / Hair by Hood - textiles made from human hair.
Nina Gautier / Urtica - textiles made from nettles.
Friends of Light / fashion woven to fit your body.
