Inflation and Refurbishment

Inflation and Refurbishment

The refurbished phone market has been growing rapidly recently, while the new smartphone market slowly but steadily shrinks, and it’s largely due to inflation. As the cost of living continues to rise, many people are looking for ways to save money on their phone purchases without compromising on quality, and buying a refurbished phone can be an attractive option.

They are often sold at a lower price than new phones, making them an affordable alternative for consumers who are looking to save money.

In addition to being a cost-effective and environmentally friendly option, refurbished phones are also becoming more widely available. Many retailers, including major phone manufacturers, now offer refurbished devices in addition to their new products, and trade-in programs are increasingly commonplace, making it easier for consumers to find and purchase refurbished phones.

As consumers continue to prioritise cost and environmental impact in light of current global affairs, it is likely that the refurbished phone market will continue to grow in the coming years.

I am optimistic that the trend will extend beyond phones into other electronics, including - you guessed it - network equipment. Inflation also means that costs are rising for businesses, and every penny counts more than ever. So, in times of economic crisis, replacing network kit with surplus or refurbished products instead of buying retail is a logical place to cut unnecessary costs.?

Firstly, refurbished network equipment can cost up to 90% less than new equipment. This means that businesses can save a significant amount of money.?

Additionally, as I’ve said many times before, as long as you source the kit from a reputable dealer, there’s no need to worry about quality. Refurbished equipment is thoroughly tested and reconditioned to ensure that it performs just as well as new equipment, making it a reliable and cost-effective solution.

Switching to refurbished equipment can be a great way to future-proof your network. As technology continues to advance, businesses need to stay up-to-date with the latest networking equipment to remain competitive. By choosing refurbished equipment, businesses can access high-quality equipment at a fraction of the cost of new equipment, allowing them to invest in other areas of their business.

In conclusion, just as refurbished phones are an environmentally and financially smart choice for consumers, refurbished network equipment is the smartest choice for businesses, especially right now. Not only is it budget-friendly and reliable, but it is also environmentally friendly and a great future-proofing step.?

And with Consumer Rights Day just having passed on March 15th, it’s also a great time to reflect on the wonderful Right to Repair movement I wrote about last month, a people-led initiative which aims to cut down on the amount of electronics being needlessly discarded. With this in mind and costs set to rise again in a matter of weeks, what better time to make the switch to refurbished equipment today and start reaping the benefits?

Refurbished electronics are definitely a plus for the environment, why upgrade just because specifications of new equipment are better? As long as the equipment does what you want it to do..... why upgrade? Unfortunately we live in a world where planned obsolescence is designed into new products, so a ‘newer, better product’ can be sold, for instance, what can the latest iPhone really do better than the previous device? In all honesty, as long as the product does what you need it to do, just keep using it!
