Inflation drops to 3 year low

It's been announced that in the year to September, inflation hit a three-year low of 1.7%.

This is below the 2% target set by the Bank of England.

This has been driven by the decreased airfares and fuel prices decreasing at the pump.

With inflation dropping by a considerable 0.5%, this paves the way for decreased base borrowing rates allowing better mortgage deals.

Councils push back on new homes plans

A number of councils are rallying against the new national planning policy framework.

A letter has been presented to Angela Rayner that "The proposed NPPF changes appear to rest on the premise that the planning system is solely responsible for the shortfall in housing delivery and thus continue to penalise councils for missing housing targets".

In the same week, Herefordshire Council has issued a 42-page response that says the area is unlikely to deliver the 1,375 homes a year with the council only delivering 675 a year over the past decade.

This follows on from the previous concerns over the framework getting housebuilders to build on more green belt land.

£68 million to fund brownfield development

£68 million has been made available to local authorities to fund deliver properties on brownfield sites.

This funding is to be split across 54 local authorities and aims to build 5200 new homes.

This amounts to £4 million per local authority.

Jason Honeyman, Bellway chief executive, said: “We welcome the new government’s plans to reform the planning system, which in time is expected to unlock land supply and support an increase in new housing across the country.”
