The World of Reality as Total Infinity

Infinity is the world or intelligence that is unlimited, endless, and boundless, ∞.

Paraphrasing Einstein, “Two things are infinite: the universe and intelligence; and I'm not sure about the universe.”

Aristotle influenced the idea of infinity for more than a millennium rejecting “actual” infinity (spatial, temporal, or numerical) in favor of the “potential” infinity of being able to count without end.

Five main types of infinity may be distinguished:

the ontological/metaphysical infinities, the infinite world of finite realities

the mathematical infinities, as infinite sets

the physical infinities, the universe, space, time

the mental/imaginary infinities, concepts, thoughts, ideas about the infinite reality, as God or the Absolute

the digital or virtual infinities, digital/computing/cybernetic/machine intelligence as machine intelligence and learning models of reality

On the Infinite AI Intelligence: Machine Intelligence and Learning vs. AI & ML

There are two types of intelligence, finite and infinite:

finite biological intelligence, as human intelligence or its artificial intelligence (AI) mimicking human intelligence or machine learning mimicking the human brain

infinite intelligence, as its digital/virtual/computing/machine intelligence or infinity AI encoding and making sense of the infinite world.

Finite AI/ML refers to the simulation of human intelligence in computing machinery that is designed to think and act like humans, learning from experience, making decisions, and perform tasks instead of humans. It is behind the total socio-techno-political industrial anti-revolution bringing great negative disruptions all around the human world.

Infinity AI as Machine Intelligence and Learning (MIL) encodes and makes sense of the infinite world, like the human brain encodes and makes sense of infinite reality.

Infinity AI as Machine Intelligence and Learning (MIL) is the general-purpose hyperintelligent technology behind the total socio-techno-political industrial revolution bringing great positive disruptions all around the world.

MIL technology is a large-scale fundamental techno-scientific social project with a view to create the infinite reality modeling and understanding machines operating on the infinite world learning, inference and interaction engines.

All our social changes and techno-scientific progress start with how we truthfully model the whole universe or the world as a whole and its contents, its parts and pieces, be it the universe, its matter and forces, time or space, nature and natural phenomena, humans and society, etc.

But instead of modeling and simulating the universe of reality, in all its complexity, the finite AI is simply brute force statistical models reduced to its specific entity, a human being, the human brain or human intelligence or human cognition or human behavior, while totally missing the world modeling capacities.

As a result, the finite AI is fragmented into various forms, special models, definite techniques and specialized applications: machine learning, neural networks, deep learning, large language models, chatbots, etc.

The finite AI as Large Language Models requires virtually infinite amount of computational resources, energy, training data, computing power, billions and even trillions of weights, billions and even trillions of US$ with infinite environmental impact.

The latest language models include billions and even trillions of weights. GPT-4, the LLM that powers ChatGPT, has 1.7 trillion machine learning parameters. It was said to have taken 25,000 Nvidia A100 GPUs, 90-100 days and $100 million to train the model. While energy usage has not been disclosed, it’s estimated that GPT-4 consumed between 51,773 MWh and 62,319 MWh, over 40 times higher than what its predecessor, GPT-3, consumed. This is equivalent to the energy consumption over 5 to 6 years of 1,000 average US households.

It is estimated that inference costs and power usage are at least 10 times higher than training costs. To put this into perspective, in January, ChatGPT consumed roughly as much electricity per month as 26,000 US households for inference. As the models get bigger and bigger to handle more complex tasks, the demand for servers to process the models grows exponentially.

Computer power for training AI systems has exponentially increased in the era of deep learning. the Economist

The scale of training data is unlimited. While the LLMs in the world have been trained on 15 trillion tokens, and Instagram and YouTube each have generated cumulative uploads of videos and images totaling ~7 quadrillion tokens, Tesla’s current fleet of camera-equipped vehicles have generated at least 80 quadrillion tokens in the last year alone. Google collects roughly the same volume of text in search queries as is used to train the most powerful AI language models in the world, more than 10 trillion language tokens annually.

AI's deep learning models, like LLMs, are not intelligent as the human brain is intelligent, being viewed as “brute force” statistical techniques that thrive on infinite amounts of data. The finite AI models cannot understand the world just by examining how words and phrases appear together.? To make inferences, they need to be trained on massive amounts of data to observe as many possibilities or combinations as possible.

The SOTA LLMs today try to infer cause and effect from scientific textbooks; for systems that capture cause-and-effect data from the real world ultimately could be developed as the real-world, general-purpose AI systems.

Summing-up

If AI is limited by its finite modeling of the finite human brain or human intelligence, MIL as Infinity AI is unlimited in its infinite modeling of the infinite world of physical, mental, social, digital or virtual realities.

SUPPLEMENT

infinity, the concept of something that is unlimited, endless, without bound. The common symbol for infinity, ∞, was invented by the English mathematician John Wallis in 1655.

Three main types of infinity may be distinguished: the mathematical, the physical, and the metaphysical.

Mathematical infinities occur, for instance, as the number of points on a continuous line or as the size of the endless sequence of counting numbers: 1, 2, 3,….

Spatial and temporal concepts of infinity occur in physics when one asks if there are infinitely many stars or if the universe will last forever.

In a metaphysical discussion of God or the Absolute, there are questions of whether an ultimate entity must be infinite and whether lesser things could be infinite as well.
