The Infinite Game by Simon Sinek
Took a rare breather from Studying/Exams/Work, for a necessary read of the 'The Infinite Game' by Simon Sinek. An enlightening read of how both Business and Personal Life should be best lived out as never he last chapter of an 'Infinite Game' , with guidance on how business leaders should shaped their organizations for success beyond their own lifetimes.
What is a Finite Game ? Like a game of badminton or chess, a game with definite rules, definite players, clear definition of the end goal , clear criteria for winning or losing. However, in business and personal life there is no such predictability ,rules change all the time, players enter and leave the game, and there is no clear recipe for always winning.
For organizations to 'outlive' their leadership, a leader that embraces the infinite mindset have to build a "sustainable" culture with three key priorities:
1) To build trusted teams, of people who operate with integrity and value teamwork. The leader provides "safety" as a priority in the business culture , for people to innovate, fail-fast, work together
2) To take time to define and fine worth cause and purpose, that would inspire people to come along and keep them motivated
3)To identify and keep sight of a worthy rival that a business use as benchmark for performance, not just a competitor to beat. A worthy rival that helps the organization get better at what they do, and provide better clarity of why they do it.
The book also offered a brief insight how an infinite mindset may also be applied in parenting. As parents, the objective must not be for a child to succeed at endeavoer throughout his life, his first soccer game, his exams in school, but to teach him the value of service and lifelong learning, how to play well with others, helping him discover his talents, and pointing them to find their own passions.
