Inertial Measurement RTK K5 IMU Will Bring Your Productivity to A New Level
What are the basic features of Inertial Measurement Technology of K5 IMU?
Calibration Free/ 5 seconds IMU initialization/ 60° tilt
1) The last generation tilt survey (with tilt sensor compensation) takes too much time to do the calibration (E-bubble calibration and magnetic calibration), and the magnetic field of earth badly effects the accuracy.?
2) Some other brands declare that their receivers are equipped with IMU technology, but maybe it is not true. Before starting work, if they need to do MAGNETIC CALIBRATION as below, it is not IMU inside.
3) K5 IMU doesn't need any calibration before working. After the receiver gets fixed solution, all we need to do is to shake the pole few times to activate IMU sensor. When the IMU status is activated, we can do the tilt survey.?
4) K5 IMU works in different angles and directions.
5) Conventional RTK with tilt sensor has a tilt angle within 30° only; K5 IMU can reach to 60°.
6) In good condition, the accuracy of tilt measurement of K5 IMU can be better than 2cm.

How fast can K5 IMU work?
20% to 50% faster than Conventional RTK.
1) Use a K5 IMU and a conventional receiver to measure 11 ground points on a 30m road.
2) Switch places and compare again
How much is the accuracy of IMU tilt survey?
Down to 2cm Accuracy.
1)?we collect 22?different points?with conventional RTK and IMU RTK.
We can see:

For the plane coordinates, the maximum difference is 2.9cm, the minimum difference is 0.1cm and the average difference is 2.5cm;
For the height coordinates, the maximum difference is 6.3cm, the minimum difference is 0.1cm and the average difference is 2.5cm.
2) We compare IMU RTK accuracy?on the same point?in?different angles and directions.
On the same position, we collect one point with leveling the bubble in the middle and 24 points in four different angles and six different tilt angles (5°,15°,25°,35°,45° and 55°)
We can see:
For the plane coordinates, the maximum difference is 6.0cm, the minimum difference is 0cm and the average difference is 3.0cm;
For the height coordinates, the maximum difference is 3.4cm, the minimum difference is 0cm and the average difference is 1.5cm.
Conclusion:
1.K5 IMU's tilt accuracy is better in moving status than static status;
2.The bigger tilt angle, the worse tilt survey accruracy.
Is there any added value of Inertial Measurement?
More safety/ more convenience/ better signal.
1) Keep surveyor far away from moving cars
2) Conveniently measure the inaccessible points
3) Get more signal at Non-signaled point
4) Protect surveyor from other dangers
