Hi and welcome back. It's been a busy week since our AGM , let's get right to it.
Netherlands to cut number of annual flights at Schiphol Airport
Last week we were shocked by the government of the Netherlands' announced plan to cut the number of annual flights at Schiphol Airport to 440,000 – a 20% cut to Schiphol’s potential cap.
The justification put forward for the cut is not supported by facts.
The government claims that the cuts will reduce noise and deliver a significant reduction in NOx emissions. But aviation’s NOx contribution is around 1% of total NOx deposition in the Netherlands, and the redistributed noise paths that are also a part of this initiative will actually increase the number of people exposed to aircraft noise.
Prior to the pandemic, aviation supported more than 300,000 jobs and €22 billion in GDP to the economy of the Netherlands. Key to this economic contribution was the connectivity driven by Schiphol’s global hub airport role.
This sudden decision is a shocking blow to aviation, jobs, and the economy of the Netherlands. It comes on top of a tripling of the passenger tax, and a 37% rise in airport charges.?

In 2019, Amsterdam was the third-best internationally connected city in Europe, behind only London and Paris.

Chart of the Week: Industry profitability in sight after three challenging years
Although our industry has been impacted by war in Europe and there are broad-based global cost increases as well as severe capacity constraints in many areas, airlines are getting closer to profitability in the year ahead .
The recovery in passenger traffic is expected to gain pace this year (2022 RPKs to be 18% below 2019 levels) as people are keen to travel as soon as travel restrictions are lifted.
Cargo revenues are expected to be robust even as cargo yields moderate with the additional belly capacity.

2 年I cautioned about the total panic that ripped through the airtansport, the hospitality industries and the whole world economy in general about downsizing 18 months ago . It is paramount that once you fired pilots ,cabin crews and aircrafts engineers , it is going to be almost impossible to reqaliffed, train and validation of all flight crews in times for get back to pre- Covid-19 flight status. All the delays, cancellations we are now witnessing around the world is a testament of total lack of the situation!
