On February 22, Lens Technology and Hangzhou Rokid, a leading company in AI interaction technology, announced a deep strategic partnership to drive technological innovation and commercial breakthroughs in the AI glasses industry.
This collaboration not only marks a shift from individual technological advancements to comprehensive ecosystem development but also lays a solid foundation for the rapid growth of global AI glasses shipments in 2025.
At the High-Quality Economic Development Conference in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, Rokid's founder and CEO, Zhu Mingming, confidently and fluently delivered his speech using AR glasses with a teleprompter function, controlled through a ring on his finger.
It is reported that these AI glasses, featuring a built-in teleprompter function, will soon enter mass production in Changsha.
Lens Technology and Rokid aim to provide core support for the global AI glasses market, which is projected to see a shipment surge from 4 million to 12 million units in 2025. Their collaboration will encompass full-device assembly and supply chain integration.
Cutting-Edge Optical Waveguide Technology
Rokid Glasses may appear to be ordinary eyewear, but they are packed with advanced technology.
The glasses use diffractive optical waveguide imaging technology, enabling users to view a clear virtual interface on transparent lenses, transforming the device into a discreet yet reliable teleprompter.
In simple terms, optical waveguides direct light along a predefined path, while diffractive optical waveguides utilize diffraction properties to manipulate light paths effectively.
Diffraction occurs when light interacts with tiny apertures or barriers, forming patterns. In diffractive optical waveguides, microscopic gratings are engraved onto optical surfaces to guide light in a controlled manner.
As illustrated, the optical signal originates from the "light engine" at the lower-left corner, which converts electrical signals into optical images, much like a miniature projector. The optical waveguide then directs this image into the user's eyes.
The waveguide consists of optical lenses embedded with gratings and follows a structured three-stage process:
AI Glasses Packed with Smart Features
According to Rokid, these AI glasses will support a range of functions, including:
? 4K Photography
? 1080P Video Recording
? Bluetooth Music Playback
? Phone Calls
? Voice Assistant
? Meeting Transcription
? Flash Note-taking
? Navigation
? Real-time Translation
However, as the product has not been officially released, the final feature set may be adjusted based on market feedback and technological advancements.
Lens Technology’s Role in Mass Production
Lens Technology has partnered with Rokid as the exclusive full-device assembly provider for all Rokid AI glasses, covering the entire supply chain—from frames and lenses to functional modules and automated assembly lines. With its globally advanced smart manufacturing capabilities, Lens Technology is helping Rokid overcome production bottlenecks and accelerate large-scale product delivery.
The company’s proprietary nano-microcrystalline glass technology significantly improves lens impact resistance and light transmittance (exceeding 95%) while achieving a lightweight design. For example, Rokid Glasses weigh only 49 grams, offering users an exceptional high-definition display experience.
Strategic Investment Collaboration
To further strengthen their partnership, Lens Technology and Rokid have also engaged in capital collaborations, including equity investments and joint venture funds.
This deep collaboration marks a turning point for AI glasses, shifting from isolated technological advancements to full-scale ecosystem development. It is expected to drive the industry from the technology validation phase to the commercialization explosion phase, reshaping the smart wearables landscape and fueling growth in the trillion-dollar AI market. ??
