Ericsson lights up CBRS-based private wireless network for Purdue University Airport?| Fierce Wireless
As momentum builds in the private wireless space, buoyed by improving equipment and spectrum availability, airports have emerged as a key testbed for early private 5G deployments. The acute focus on efficiency and security in aviation environments is unlocking an array of new use cases that are best served by private wireless networks. While there have been major developments at French airports in recent months, the latest to deploy a private network is located across the Atlantic at Purdue University Airport. Sweden’s 爱立信 has been enlisted as part of the university’s Lab to Life testbed that encourages collaborative partnerships between academia and industry. The private network deployment is based on a 4G and 5G dual-mode core and operates on spectrum in the CBRS band. Saab is the first industry partner to participate in the university’s testing programme and it has installed systems and sensors that track aircraft, support public safety communications and manage surface operations more efficiently.
Druid Software ramps up private 5G activity in France, Germany | RCR Wireless News
The Wicklow-based core network specialist announced significant progress in securing deals with clients in Continental Europe, emblematic of its strong underlying growth in recent years and the wider maturing of Ireland’s homegrown open RAN ecosystem internationally. Druid Software will provide open RAN 5G software to critical industry in France as part of a deal with French neutral host operator and system integrator TDF. It is also working with Node-H, a RAN software developer in Germany, to develop a 5G-NR solution for enterprise use in the 3.5GHz band (n78). The company’s Raemis software platform is the standalone core network foundation that enables enterprises to deploy cellular and Wi-Fi radios from any vendor. Druid recently joined the European Users Wireless Enterprise Network Association (EUWENA) and has been supported by the Irish government in foreign trade missions to countries like France.
O-RAN Alliance announces new specifications & partners with OAI in bid to accelerate adoption | RCR Wireless News
The open RAN market is set to benefit from greater collaboration between the O-RAN Alliance and OpenAirInterface Software Alliance (OAI) as both organisations inked a memorandum of understanding to promote sharing of information and work collaboratively on solving issues and reducing fragmentation. In debuting new specifications as part of Release 003, the O-RAN Alliance has worked on enhancing RAN slicing and service management and orchestration (SMO) features, as well as expanding the number of testing and integrations centres (OTIC).
