Industry 4.0 platform the@vanced: Kampf introduces new functions and offers a glimpse into the future

the@vanced is Kampf’s Industry 4.0 solution for the slitting and winding industry. The digital integrative platform connects our machines with higher-level systems like ERP or MES Systems. Thanks to its modular make-up, the@vanced is continually developed further and new functions add to its impact on production efficiency. With its latest additions, Kampf makes production data more transparent and takes reporting to a new level.

What’s new? New functions for the@vanced further boost performance

To increase the productivity of Kampf GmbH machines in the field, the developers in Wiehl and Bocholt, Germany, have recently presented new functions to the platform. They have been realized in close cooperation with our customers, among others our close customer Innovia Films , whose feedback on the previous version has been invaluable to the@vanced.?

“Performance comparison”: Comparing machine performance

“Performance comparison” is one of two new functions in the so-called productivity package. It enables customers to evaluate and compare production data based on individual machines, time periods, and work shifts. These filters can be further refined by additional parameters which include:

With this wide range of parameters and filters to select from, individual and purposeful reporting becomes easy and instrumental in making production more transparent. Based on the data generated, production processes can now be optimized and taken to new productive heights.

In addition to setting parameters, Performance Comparison also features a target value function to set default values. These can then be used as a basis for the comparison of different machines’ parameters.

The new feature of the the digital platform, is now available as part of the so-called Productivity Package of the@vanced, one of five modular packages available for the digitalization of processes and machines.

State Reporting: analyzing the why of downtimes

Our customers’ feedback has also been instrumental for the digital platform’s second new feature: a more detailed analysis of downtimes. After looking at their downtimes closely, Innovia inspired Kampf to add more details to their analysis function, since it did reveal the downtimes but not the reasons and errors causing them.

The new feature offers operators the option to enter reasons for downtimes in the state reporting function while some conditions are recorded automatically. The PLC (programmable logic controller) accounts for machine states, such as the activation of the inlet chain, which necessitates turning the machine off.

Thanks to this new function, machine users benefit from additional machine stat transparency which allows them to optimize their operations actively.

What’s next? Recording troubleshooting data, Excel and PDF export, and product filters

Kampf is constantly working on the@vanced, making it not only an indispensable tool for operators and heads of production but also for the service teams in the field.

To this end, we are currently evaluating the data needed to optimally service machines on-site or via remote service. Presumably going live in Q1 of 2024, the new function stores data for two weeks, making it accessible should the necessity for a service intervention arise. Service staff can use the troubleshooting data in the@vanced’s memory to reproduce any occurrences that were out of line. With the help of these data, they can identify machine errors more quickly and fix them even faster –reducing downtimes for our customers and advancing the reliability of our machines.

The close cooperation with our customers leads to practice-oriented solutions: Another function available shortly is an Excel export of machine data. Our customers have expressed their need to be able to export evaluations into Excel sheets, e.g., to present them at management meetings or other events on a monthly, weekly, or even daily basis. Shortly, they will be able to export whatever data they choose into their own as well as predesigned templates. This function will be implemented in Q2 of 2024.

Josh Packaging is a family-owned business with over 30 years of experience in flexible packaging manufacturing.
