Industrial Internets of Things (IIoT) – Is your organization ready for it!
?
?
IIoT is a subset of IoT (Internet of Things) and focusing mainly on industrial applications and manufacturing processes. Automation is not new to manufacturing. Industry 4.0 takes automation to the next level with integration of the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT).
IIoT which is an integral part of Industry 4.0 helps drive more efficiencies out of factories. It is all about your connected assets and connected ecosystem which give information on machines and operations in the factory on a visual dashboard to help run the factory efficiently.
Simply put, IIoT, more than just automates manual processes. It is defined to check a particular parameter, say temperature of a machine, and send real time alerts on that. IoT sensors can be designed to capture specific parameters. So, a single sensor may be good to capture two or three different data points or just one.
Talking about the value that industrial IoT brings in, the value can be measured in two ways – one outside the plant and one inside the plant. Outside the plant, logistics or supply chain part is where the biggest value comes. The logistics or supply chain cost is the biggest and most variable. Bringing down that variability has been the biggest use case where the IoT found its natural traction. Inside the plant, the natural traction comes from the predictive health monitoring of assets such as inventory, machines, servers etc ?and variability reduction in the throughput or equipment-specific efficiency improvement. The RoI can be in terms of reduced downtime, reduced maintenance expense, lower defects and rejection rates, better quality output, higher visibility into inventory
Benefits:
Monitoring of Assets: predictive health monitoring of machines and the tracking of assets in the warehouse

Pre-emptive alerts for key variables that can possibly lead to factory incidents.
Cold Supply Chains: There’s significant potential in temperature-controlled supply chains. IoT can help track the vitals of refrigerated goods across multiple industries including pharma and food processing. Recently there were instances related to alleged spurious drugs. With IoT it would have been easy to track exactly which factory and which batch they came from.”
