Swim Clones Dive In: Paris 2024 Summer Olympics Go Digital

Swimmers at This Summer's Olympics are Guided by Their Digital Twin

At the Paris 2024 summer Olympics, swimmers are being guided by their digital twin . Here’s how they work to help the fastest swimmers break records. In July sports fans worldwide saw the world’s fastest swimmers launch from the starting blocks into the Olympic-size pool at the Paris La Défense Arena in Nanterre, France, a western suburb of Paris.

This?Summer Olympics?is the first time that nine of the elite swimmers are guided by their?digital twin. Since 2015 teams of researchers at Emory University and the University of Virginia, led by one of us (Ono), have been equipping swimmers with devices called inertial measurement units to record their body’s acceleration, orientation and force. Unlike typical digital video, which records 24 frames per second, these sensors capture information 512 times a second. Read on?-->? (h/t Scientific American )
