Industrial Electrical Shortcomings:
Safety Does Matter
It was a maintenance day at my factory. We usually do maintenance every Sunday. Generally, a list hands over to me every Saturday from the production department. By the way, I also have a checklist that I make it follow strictly.
There was a complaint about a flying bucket motor's brake because it was missing the flags from time to time at different positions. The electrician went to check the brake physically. When he removed the rear cover of the motor to inspect the brake. The sooner he removed the rear cover, the more the brake coil had already energized. It was a surprising event for him.
He called me. Would you please come to me? I said, "I will be there right in a moment" I warned all my electricians never to disconnect any cable until they are sure that the supply has been turned off from the back. Always make sure first. First of all, check the supply with a tester or with a multimeter.
In this case, the sooner he checked the supply before disconnecting the cable there was a supply of 440V AC. He got shocked. why was the supply coming even machine was turned off? We went to the panel room where we saw the contactor has been stuck due to malfunction.
Later on, I got the brake gap adjusted because the gap was not proper and uniform. I got it checked with the operator. Now the brake was working fine.
It happens most of the time, we are supposed to care about it otherwise it can be dangerous. Never underestimate the importance of safety whether it is minor or major. That's why I took the caption that safety does matter believe me.
