Industrial Decarbonization #1 – Carbon capture projects can become perfect kisses

A highly positive and furious working week is ending, and I spend the early evening in the garden, gathering my thoughts from all input, impulses and interactions had during the week. I love walking around in the garden and look and feel at the flowers, bushes and trees. It is early autumn, but still several heat records are broken in the Nordics, so the past days the feeling has been more of summer. The garden in the autumn guise is perhaps what inspires me the most, this is when the greens and colors give me most pleasure.

This week I was hurling myself between client meetings (not only Teams, but also in real life, and getting to discuss project funding and financing), networking events where the discussions floated into the “U” in terms of hydrogen and power-t-x solutions, but also the need for long-term governmental instruments that support energy transition projects; “BECCSfast” morning workshop looking into the voluntary carbon market; presenting at a webinar for the pulp & paper industry on CCUS, and learning a few new things myself along the way.

It is great to have all the various discussions, viewpoints and sharing, as we all try to unlock the potential of the energy transition. It is also very encouraging to hear all the positive feedback and interest in our Canopy carbon capture range of products and solutions, so many are bringing up this topic to me by themselves! Word of mouth is the ultimate marketing...

Industrial decarbonization in terms of carbon capture, utilization and storage projects are maturing, the realism gathers from all sides of the ecosystem. To bring industrial scale to the carbon capture projects, we need to collaborate from early stages to the operational phase; whether it is the emitters and projects developers, technology providers and engineering companies, or governments and regulators – we all need to put our part into the solution.

And that is the feeling I digest in the evening; we have to collaborate strongly (and at the same time there is competition to make us all be extra sharp to find the best value chain solutions). When we are able to find the full match and make it work, it is like the perfect kiss. This is what we have to strive for in each case, and where that kiss does not happen, it might well not be a project on feasible grounds.

And on that note - a song recommendation for the evening. New Order – The Perfect Kiss
