Indus Hospital Champions Heart Health on World Heart Day 2024

On September 27, 2024, Indus Hospital’s Department of Cardiology hosted its first-ever World Heart Day event, bringing together renowned cardiologists and healthcare professionals to spotlight the importance of heart health. Under this year’s theme, “Use Heart for Action,” the event inspired individuals to take proactive steps towards protecting their hearts.

Throughout the day, leading cardiologists such as Dr. Sajid Dhakam and Dr. Asadullah Kundi shared practical advice on maintaining heart health, emphasizing the crucial role of physical activity, a balanced diet, quitting smoking, and regularly monitoring blood pressure and blood sugar levels. They underscored the growing need for routine health screenings, especially for healthcare professionals and younger populations, in response to the rising number of cardiovascular-related deaths within the medical community.

Cardiovascular disease remains the number one cause of death globally, claiming 20.5 million lives each year and accounting for 16.5% of deaths in Pakistan. Most of these fatalities are preventable through early detection and lifestyle changes. The event emphasized the responsibility of the medical community to spread awareness and provide the tools necessary to help people make informed decisions about their heart health.

The event was spearheaded by Dr. Taiba Akhtar, Chief Resident of the Department of Cardiology, with enthusiastic support from her team. Indus Hospital’s leadership and consultants also joined in a symbolic health walk, where they discussed future preventive cardiology initiatives aimed at promoting long-term heart health.
