Indoor Air Quality is key topic these days with the London Mayor just announcing a pollution tax on top of the congestion tax for central London. Most councils have been gathering data for decades now and building up a picture of where pollution is highest in there borough. The car is a key, especially on busy roads and tricky junctions where cars have to wait at the lights for long periods. Also unexpected locations like outside schools with many cars dropping off children.
To improve your indoor air quality especially if you live on a main road, you can buy a flat with heat recovery ventilation. This will improve your indoor quality of air. It removed humid warm air and replaces with fresh air but pre heated.
It does not filter the air, so there are many filters now on the market.
Also plants can improve indoor air quality. Nasa has done the work for you, they know the best species.

Hello Craig. If I can add something to your remark: It is indeed true that the fan and equipment quality of some (residential) MVHR manufacturers are on the bad side of the quality line. However, I've seen some very remarkable quality updates since 2009 and as a filtration company we have seen the demand growing and growing on classification, thickness of the frame, etcetera... So my opinion is that the filtration of nowadays MVHR units are more focussed on the Indoor Air Quality aspect. Some manufacturers delivers standard F7 / M5 filters for supply/extract Unfortunately, the end users aren't enough aware of it.

7 年I am afraid that many MVHR systems filters are very low efficiency, probably necessarily so considering the relatively low power (and low noise requirements) of the fans. I see them as a bit of a throwback to the pre-1980's when HVAC filters were provided more to protect the equipment from clogging rather than to carry out any meaningful cleaning of the air supplied to people in the served area

7 年Hi I think you will find that most MVHR have two filters, one on the supply to filter the incoming air and one on the extract to filter air before it passes through the heat exchanger.
