The Indispensable CFO
Coming up on December 11th in our NYC chapter, we are holding a discussion that I know will be quite interesting – the topic is on The Indispensable CFO - This title made me think to myself, what does a CFO ( or financial executive headed toward this position) have to do to be recognized as indispensable; how does one develop h/herself to be Indispensable in this current culture?
While CFO’s across all organizations demonstrate strong financial acumen and functional expertise, the most successful CFO’s acknowledge the need to leverage competencies beyond financial oversight that align with the tenets of their organization’s strategy, culture, and stakeholders. – But what are these competencies and how does one do this?? There is only so much time in a day and only so much energy one can expend.
I just heard a very smart man remind a room full of CFO’s that we all need to remain (or become!) passionate learners – no matter your age or status in a company, you must continually learn and gain new resources in order to remain relevant and respected among your peers as well as (and perhaps more important) your staff.
The easiest way to continue growing is to make sure you are getting out of your own “tent” this is the best way to realize what you do not know you do not know ( I love that statement!)
– To keep current you need to invest in yourself and get motivated – New Years Resolution time is right around the corner – why not just start now and do something that is easy like get involved with a professional organization like the CFO Leadership Council? Our pledge is that we empower you with a strong network, resources to get immediate answers to your questions, and great programming that will enable you to think differently resulting in different successes because of it.
I sincerely recommend that you join an organization that offers you peer to peer collaboration that stimulates your thinking – of course, I believe the CFOLC is that organization and if you have not experienced the group, reach out to me ([email protected]) – I am sure there is a live meeting happening close enough to make it easy to get engaged.
Remember, the only way to keep ahead of the curve is to keep moving forward - don't be convinced that you are too busy - take inventory of what is keeping you busy and you will find that the results are not enough to keep you from investing in you.
I look forward to hearing from you and if you want to check us out on line just go to www.cfolc.com - - Invest in you..do it today.

5 年Angela, what a great article! Being a member for 10years I wholeheartedly recommend my fellow CFOs and senior finance execs on LinkedIn to join their respective local chapter (https://cfoleadershipcouncil.com). It is a great networking group of CFOs, by CFOs and most importantly for CFOs. It fosters a collaborative and energetic synergy helping members to build a professional network of their peers, as well as involving them in engaging discussions, both in-person and online, that deliver pragmatic and tangible insights on business and leadership issues.
