Indies Autumn Portfolio Tastings 2024
Boutinot Wines
In theory we’re a wine business, but really, we’re a people business. Our wine is the product of our people.

It is that time of year again, and Boutinot Indies kicked off the autumn with our Portfolio tastings across Manchester, London and Edinburgh, perfectly timed to usher in inspiration for the upcoming season with customer classics, special parcels, new wines and producers.
Manchester found us back in Mackie Mayor, a venue we’ve frequented over the years for its exceptional daylight, airy architecture, delightful service and plenty of space for wine chatter to flow. Filled with producers from around the world, customers streamed in, and it’s wonderful to stand back and see our Boutinot Indies family gather and assemble.
Edinburgh’s tasting was hosted in Dovecot Studios in the heart of the city, so our producers had an adventurous week travelling up and down the UK to showcase our portfolio to our customers far and wide.
This year’s London tasting was hosted at the iconic Smith & Wollensky, a timeless institution located in the heart of the West End. The venue’s rich mahogany interiors and classic American steakhouse vibe (and there was lots of that to accompany the wine) offered a warm and elegant welcome to our Indies customers. It also provided the ideal backdrop to taste the range of one of our newest Californian producers, Clay Shannon. Their beautifully crafted wines—featuring textural and elegant expressions of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Cabernet Sauvignon are a welcomed addition that offer exceptional value while reflecting the passion and heart that goes into cultivating their land.

In addition, we had the pleasure to introduce the new Pyren Wines, unique expressions of Australia’s Victoria Pyrenees district wrapped up in a range of styles, from the vibrant and fun natural ‘Little RaRa’ wines to the sleek and sophisticated pure varietals Shiraz, Syrah and Cabernet Franc. And of course, there was the sparkling Shiraz—a particular favourite of mine, as a self-confessed sparkling red enthusiast. This wine brings back memories of my time in Australia, sipping this gloriously effervescent fruity wine that perfectly accompanied everything from smoky meats and cranberry sauce to cheese and chocolate truffles.
Throughout the day, Christmas inspiration was top on the agenda for many. The tasting provided the perfect opportunity to explore a wide variety of festive essentials, including Champagne, Sherry, Port, Burgundy, Magnums, and gifting. With 300 wines to choose from, it’s hard to pick a favourite. However, for a little inspiration to bookend a truly excellent selection, the Domaine Fran?ois et Julien Pinon Pétillant Brut Vouvray and the Krohn Colheita 2006 both wowed the crowd with their elegance and character.
As always, our annual tastings are a fantastic opportunity to celebrate the artistry and passion behind each bottle. Until next time … enjoy the wines!
