India’s Pursuit With Edge Cloud Data Centers

Indian data center industry is undergoing transformation, with proliferation of new technologies. What’s ruling the roots are, 5G network, IoT, Industrial Internet of things (IIoT), virtual and augmented reality, artificial intelligence, machine learning, data analytics, video streaming and surveillance. Imagine the confluence of all these technologies around connected devices, surge in data generation and need for automation. It is colossal.
Heightened focus on data sovereignty and data localisation by the Indian government, further made all global cloud providers realising the inclusive potential of Indian market, scope, and its growth prospect.
With digital economy and automation taking precedence in our daily lives, we see a visible transition from “man to machine” to a “machine to machine” communication topology. All these naturally sustain on IP based wireless connectivity and, what we are witnessing is an unprecedented surge in IP based traffic in the digital space around us. As per open statistics available, India generates 215 petabytes of IP data per day and is well set to hit a mind-boggling count of 646 petabytes of IP data generation per day by 2022.
If we look around us, we will find that typically everything that touches regular operation of our livelihood, is a version of Internet Of Things. The focus has shifted from a uni-dimensional safe keeping of data, to real-time availability of uncompromised data, on the move.
Edge cloud data centers go a long way to address this compelling need of modern industry. Taking the data processing closer to the epicenter (user) is the way forward.
What sets Edge cloud data center apart from the traditional bricks and mortar data center is, it’s compact and modular nature of design, access proximity, lion share infusion of automation and self-healing capabilities. It is more of technology and less of infrastructure.
This warrants for some serious upgrade of current data center infrastructures, to ensure effective transmission of data across distances without dropping of packets (data loss) and lag in delivery time (high latency). The solution to reduce latency lies in localised establishment of cloud-based services at edge cloud data centers over edge network. We bring the edge closer to the end users and exterminate the concern of latency and lag, in delivering applications and data.
In the Indian data center industry, the mechanisms for base infrastructure, in terms of management of power, cooling, connectivity, building of micro data centers (modular or containerised) are time tested and well-developed now. Hence setting up of edge cloud data centers, on a distributed architecture to provide localized cloud-based services to end users and connected devices will not draw a sweat.
A faster and reliable delivery of services and applications, through deployment of edge cloud data centers will not only provide a competitive edge for the service providers, but also enhance operational excellence and predictive Go To Market analysis for the user enterprises. An integrated and seamless operation for enterprise, riding on Edge Cloud Data Center ecosystem is, on the foresee.

4 年Well articulated Deb ,Next Gen cloud-native applications are emerging in entertainment, retail, e-commerce manufacturing, automotive etc which, in many cases, will be more compute-intensive and latency-sensitive. Traditional centralized cloud architectures may not meet customer experience expectations for these applications and will require a more dynamic and distributed cloud model , Edge Cloud is need of the hour
