India's Brightest Future Is At Hand!

India's Brightest Future Is At Hand!

As the new Dean of Woxsen School of Business I am extremely excited about India’s future.

According to Indexmundi “India is fast developing into an open-market economy. Economic liberalization measures, including industrial deregulation, privatization of state-owned enterprises, and reduced controls on foreign trade and investment, began in the early 1990s and served to accelerate the country's growth, currently about 8%.”

I have come literally from around the globe to take on the responsibilities as Dean of Woxsen School of Business and I really look forward to positioning ourselves within the top 20 business schools in the world by 2020!

One of my main objectives as Woxsen’s Dean is not only to provide a holistic education education to our students but also to make entrepreneurs of each one of them. Thus, raising our standards of excellence on a daily basis by creating an environment conducive to ideal-seeking behaviour where students generate jobs instead of looking for one after graduation.

However, it is human nature to follow the path of least resistance, which explains why there is so much mediocrity in the world. For it is much easier to be lazy than diligent, to be corrupt than whole, to be selfish than altruistic, to be mediocre than outstanding. And that’s why Entrepreneurial Integrity is so important.

First, let’s define Entrepreneurship:

The etymology of Entrepreneur is from the French verb: “Entreprende” which means “to undertake." Interestingly, in Sanskrit, “Antha Prerna,” means self motivated and sounds very close to 'entreprende.' Which is great, because self-motivation embraces very well what entrepreneurship is about, and that's what we want our students to be, self-motivated!

Now, let’s define INTEGRITY:

According to one dictionary: Integrity is: A firm adherence to moral values. In other words, doing the right thing when no one is watching, or even better: being without blemish, completeness, sincerity, soundness, uprightness, wholeness, perfection!

I know, we have heard far too often, “nobody is perfect,” indeed. And that is precisely why we must strive on a daily basis to become perfect as our Divine Nature demands.

At Woxsen, we believe that Integrity is a fundamental part of entrepreneurship.

Integrity is the quintessential element of the driving force towards a better future for India and humanity as a whole.

The Economic Survey of the Indian government for December 2015 shows very promising figures, there are 19,000 technology-enabled startups in India, eight in the ‘Unicorn’ club (these are ventures valued at $100 crore and up).” There are 480 lakh small businesses in India—more than twice that in the US, with 230 lakh. Entrepreneurship is considered now a great job-option for the youth in India.  India’s government has also rolled out a number of ambitious projects such as Startup India, Make in India, Digital India and Skill India.

India's diverse economy offers great opportunities for entrepreneurship in a multitude of products and services. Services account for nearly two-thirds of India's output with less than one-third of its labor force. India has capitalized on its large educated English-speaking population to become a major exporter of information technology services, business outsourcing services, and software developers.

And there are many reasons why I see India’s future very promising

  • The power of women in India
  • Great arable land
  • Low median age around 27 years
  • Low obesity rate 1.9% (compared to China’s 5.9%) >triple!
  • Services accounting for almost 57% of GDP
  • Renewable energy sector providing over 44 Giga Watts!

However, there are three basic pillars upon which any truly sustainable economic development must be built: 1) Integrity; 2) A sound judicial system; 3) An educated society.

One does not have to look very hard to witness where the lack of integrity has taken our planet. Look at Venezuela and Ecuador where, despite of unprecedented government income from oil exports, the countries now have unprecedented debt burdens. Look at Brazil and the Petrobras corruption. Look at Cuba, where the infamous “Socialist Revolution” has robbed three generations of their future! And to top it all off, look at the current state of affairs in the most power economy in the world where the stakes for the next presidential election have never been higher! And Let’s not forget about the reason behind the 2008 financial crisis.

To put it simply, the worst cancer in today’s world is corruption due to lack of integrity. The world is in desperate need of people with integrity.

Hence, the importance of the next to two points for a brighter future in India in particular:

First, the Strong Spiritual connection with The Divine in the Indian Culture and,

Second, The presence of Woxsen School of Business based on its Founder's Vision, Mr. Veen Pula.

Integrity is the backbone for a truly sustainable and brighter future for India and the entire planet because Integrity is intimately linked to this Spiritual connection with The Divine. It is only through the connection with The Divine that humanity will be able to transcend the mundane and progress into a brighter future.

As Woxsen’s Dean I am fully committed to creating an environment conducive to integrity development in every Woxsenite as part of our curricula.

At Woxsen we believe that we must start with the best possible inputs, and thus, just as a wine-master hand-picks the best grapes to make a wine masterpiece, we at Woxsen, hand-pick the best students to catalyze them into the best change-agents for a better India and a better world.

Hence, the ever-greater importance of Entrepreneurial Integrity!

At Woxsen School of Business we are fully committed to enhancing and further developing not only the integrity of our students, but also that of our faculty and staff, and every person associated directly or indirectly with Woxsen.

This, we believe, is the best contribution we, at Woxsen School of Business, can make to India’s society, adding to the labor-market Woxsenites with integrity, fully equipped with the know-how of state-of-the-art technologies and the critical-thinking skills required to deliver the best solutions to India’s current challenges.

I am also convinced that Woxsenites will not to settle for just a diploma or an education when they can have the brightest possible future and feel passionate about it!

I truly believe that everything has a higher purpose and we, as a society, must ensure we have a crystal-clear vision and understanding of our highest and fundamental purpose in life, because only then we will be able to TAP into Our Divinity to have the drive and determination to maintain a positive attitude on a daily basis and the desire and power to become the very best we are DESTINED to become!

Great article Professor ..Integrity should become core part of leaning process especially in B schools. Given social economic conditions in India, engaging current generation in holistic learning is very difficult and majority ignore tougher path of true learning and honesty becoming rare commodity in education system.
