India's Festive Season Shopping Boom: E-Commerce Giants Break Records
India's festive season shopping has begun in earnest, with e-commerce platforms recording record sales. The country's economic health is being reinforced by strong consumer spending, which accounts for 60 percent of GDP.
E-commerce sales are projected to grow to $350 billion by 2030, up from $63 billion in 2023. During the festive season this year, Indians are expected to spend almost $1 billion on e-commerce, a 20 percent increase from last year.
Amazon, Flipkart, Myntra, Ajio, Nykaa, Meesho, and Snapdeal are all seeing a 15 percent increase in order volumes compared to last year.
E-commerce platforms are not being dampened by inflation and higher interest rates, as consumer confidence is at a four-year high.
Amazon India's Great Indian Festival of 2023 has been its most lucrative festive campaign yet, with Vice President Manish Tiwary stating that it witnessed the biggest start. Flipkart's Vice President Arif Mohammed also said that the festive season started phenomenally, with seven to ten times more orders than the pre-festive season for garments, furniture and furnishing, domestic appliances, and electronics.
