India's Double Milestone in Missile Development

India's Double Milestone in Missile Development

Last week marked a significant chapter in India’s defense capabilities as the nation achieved two major milestones in missile development within just four days:

?? November 12: The maiden flight test of the Long-Range Land Attack Cruise Missile (LRLACM) ?? A key step forward in indigenous missile development, the LRLACM is a cost-effective, versatile subsonic cruise missile capable of being launched from ground and naval platforms. Powered by the indigenously developed Manik Small Turbo Fan Engine, it promises a range exceeding 1,000 km.

?? November 16: The first test of India’s long-range hypersonic missile ?? A breakthrough in modern warfare technology, hypersonic missiles travel at speeds of Mach 5+ with exceptional maneuverability. These capabilities make them nearly immune to current missile defense systems, reinforcing India’s strategic deterrence—especially in light of growing regional threats.

India’s hypersonic program aligns with global developments in this domain, reflecting the evolving balance of power in modern defense. The LRLACM complements this strategy by offering cost-effective mass-launch capabilities for subsonic missions, supporting the armed forces across all services.

Both tests underline India’s growing expertise in defense technology, ensuring enhanced security and strategic autonomy.
