In a bold move to enhance cotton yield and strengthen the textile sector, the Cotton Corporation of India (CCI) has been tasked with selecting one district per state for cotton productivity trials. This initiative, spearheaded by Textile Minister Giriraj Singh, aims to propel India’s textile industry from $176 billion to $350 billion by 2030, generating 60 million jobs in the process.

Despite being a top global producer, India’s cotton yield (450-500 kg/ha) lags behind countries like Brazil, China, and Australia (2,000+ kg/ha). To tackle this, the government is scaling the Akola model, a proven strategy for improving cotton production.
