India's Ambitious Journey to a Clean Energy Horizon

India’s place under the sun is truly warm and secure! The solar energy sector has grown leaps and bounds in recent years, placing the country as a substantial player in renewable energy. I feel that the 5 following points will have a strong bearing on India’s progress as a solar player:

- Solar Capacity - India’s solar capacity has surged from 1.60 GW in 2013 to an impressive 63.15 GW in 2022. Our aim to achieve 500 GW of installed capacity from non-fossil fuel sources by 2030, needs a fillip from the private sector and further incentivization from government and regulatory bodies.

- Solar Parks - A total of 51 solar parks with a combined capacity of 37.74 GW have been sanctioned across various states in India by 2023. Gujarat and Rajasthan lead the way in sanctioned capacity, although commissioned projects are still catching up. We need more such projects!

- PM-KUSUM - Initiatives like PM-KUSUM focus on decentralizing solar power by setting up solar plants and replacing agriculture diesel pumps with solar water pumps. This not only boosts solar capacity but also transforms India’s agricultural sector. The initiative needs sustenance and a ramp-up across states.

- Innovation - India continues to invest in research and development, driving technological innovations in solar energy. These advancements enhance efficiency and affordability.

- Collaboration - India collaborates with other nations to learn from their experiences and share best practices. By leveraging global inspiration, India can lead the world in solar-based growth.

As a tropical nation blessed with abundant sunlight and ambitious plans, India is well on its way to a brighter, cleaner energy future.
