India's airports are on a new high! Thanks to air cargo.

The Indian air cargo sector continues to remain among the world’s leading marketplaces for domestic and international players. Demand for speedy delivery, greater trade and commerce and increase in the number of flights operating are some of the key reasons for this growth. To keep up with the pace, India's airports are putting their best foot forward to align themselves to the foreseen demand. These developments are being witnessed as more and more airports are expanding their cargo-handling abilities and a sudden growth spurt in the form of investments in airport infrastructure.

BLR Airport records significant growth in cargo volumes in FY 2022

BLR processed an all-time high tonnage for a fiscal year since Airport Opening Day (AOD) of 411,513 Metric Tonnes (MT) of cargo, recording a growth of 26% as against 326,643MT in FY 2021. International cargo at the airport recorded a 31% growth, 271,988MT processed, as compared to 207,518 MT in FY 2021. While the domestic cargo grew by 17%, with 139,525MT versus 119,125MT in FY 2021. The major growth driver of the airport was perishable cargo.

Mumbai International Airport’s Air Cargo observed a 30% rise in cargo volumes in FY22

With a total of 5,56,900 Metric Tonnes (MT) of overall cargo facilitated in FY22, CSMIA’s air cargo observed a rise of close to 30%in movement as compared to FY21. Where international cargo volumes grew by 26% whereas domestic cargo volumes were up by 40% over FY 21. The total import of 260,600 MT and export of 296,300 MT of cargo resulted in CSMIA’s overall share of contribution to the global cargo movements. Top 3 destinations to observe the highest import via CSMIA include China, Germany, and the US respectively. While US, UAE and Germany remain the top destinations in terms of exports.

New cargo terminal inaugurated at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International?(SVPI)?airport

After waiting for 10 months for permission from regulatory authorities and putting operational processes in place, a new cargo terminal was finally inaugurated at?Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International?(SVPI)?airport?in Ahmedabad last week. With a capacity to handle 100 metric tonnes of cargo a day and 3500 MT on average, over a month when operated round the clock, the new terminal will boost the import and export trade from SVPI airport.

Noida International Airport Phase-I is now work in progress, completion anticipated by Sept 2024

The Noida International Airport Limited (NIAL) Board has approved the development plan of the upcoming Greenfield airport, the first phase of which will cost INR 5,730 Cr. Currently, the ground levelling work and construction of the boundary wall is being undertaken. The construction of the Air Traffic Control (ATC) Tower and the first runway is scheduled to begin in May and the project, being developed by the Yamuna International Airport Pvt. Ltd., is poised for completion by September 2024.?

That's true. Air Cargo is growing and will continue to grow. The govt & airlines focus to build capacity is going to be real support for logistics. With D2C every growing and b2b doing a god recpvery, the opportunities for Ai Cargo will remain increasing.
