Indian Utility Sector Needs Collaboration across Ecosystems

Prominent leaders from the utilities industry discussed the decarbonization roadmap at the Indian Utility Week held in New Delhi. The focus of the discussion was India’s decarbonization journey and transition shaping the sector – be it power sector transitions, investments flowing in renewable and other clean technologies, systems, and market level innovations.?

Anurag Johri , Managing Director and Lead – Utilities, Accenture in India, stressed that industries should not just focus on net zero targets, but also on key performance indicators (KPIs) such as clinker ratio, scrap ratio, and production per million tons of steel. These KPIs are the ones that will drive the day-to-day reduction in Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions. Additionally, there are technologies that can cut down GHG by 95% or even 100%; however, they are expensive. And as organizations want higher returns on investments, the industry needs to collaborate across the ecosystem, and the entire value chain, and demonstrate technologies for traceability, carbon footprint labelling, renewable power, and green hydrogen.?

Anurag Johri also moderated the panel ‘Decoding the Future Energy Mix – State of Renewables and Future of Conventional,’ and Accenture’s Akash Mittal moderated the ‘Utility CIO Roundtable: Digital Age Utility of the Future’
