The Indian Student in USA
I am saddened with the fact of rising gun violence against Indian students in USA. I fondly remember most of my seniors and juniors in Chennai leave for silicon valley after their graduation in good colleges out of Chennai to pursue their dreams in the late 90's and have never returned back.
I think, im the only " sarkari" kid in my street who was scoffed of not having a "green card". Looking back at the incidents of gun violence against Indian students, as Indian parents, we need to stop and think whether US is a safe destination for our children to study.
There is no doubt about the quality of education in the US, but the fact that you can get shot by a mugger at any point of time during your stay is a perilious proposition to handle.
Sometimes, I think that India is the best place to study and live, at least you are alive !!!!! What is the point of going to a foreign country when your life is at risk?
This is akin to driving on a hilly road instead of taking a flight in turbulent weather with huge tail winds. We should understand and position ourselves from risk, so that survival is important.
My two cents to parents is to weigh all your options while planning to send your child abroad, as the child holds the dreams and future of the family. My heart goes to the families of the bereaved, whose loss can never be restored in court battles.
