Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with Singapore's Prime Minister Lawrence Wong in September 2024 during a two-day visit to Singapore. The meeting marked the first interaction between the two leaders since Wong took office as Singapore's premier and Modi began his third term as India's prime minister.
During their discussions, they agreed to elevate the bilateral relationship to a "Comprehensive Strategic Partnership," highlighting a significant enhancement in ties between the two countries. Four Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) were signed, covering various sectors such as digital technologies, semiconductors, healthcare, education, and skills development. The leaders also discussed expanding cooperation in fields like advanced manufacturing, connectivity, artificial intelligence, and sustainability, aiming to boost trade relations and enhance strategic ties.
Modi also met with Singapore President Tharman Shanmugaratnam and other senior ministers, and he planned to engage with Singaporean business leaders and visit a semiconductor manufacturing facility later in the day.
