Indian Ocean Tsunami Anniversary
On December 26, 2004 an earthquake under the Indian Ocean created a tsunami that would kill 230,000 people by day's end. I believe that future tsunamis and storm surges can be stopped with the timely release of liquid nitrogen, or any gas, into the wave at a significant depth. Simply put, rising gas in the ocean replaces the forward motion of the water in a dangerous wave, leaving the wave energy weaker after it passes by the released gas. I did a small experiment using 30 liters of water in a garden box and using keyboard cleaner to release gas into the wave I created. I estimate that less than 1 gram of gas was in the wave at any moment. Nevertheless, I managed to alter the wave and break up the trough.
