Are Indian Markets Ready for an Ecosystem where an Employee can be the ‘KING’?
Amit: Renu, I need an urgent leave, my dad is not well, i need to go home immediately.
(Renu HR): Amit, I cannot stop you as this is an emergency but please keep us updated as you know the project is nearing deadline.
Amit: Sure, I will keep you updated!
After 3 Days Amit calls:
Hi Renu, Dad has been diagnosed with cancer, doctors are saying that they need to do some emergency test within next few days, I am not sure when I can join back, if possible can I work from home?
Not an ideal situation for either Amit or Renu here but these are kind of work situations where Management need to stand up. The response of management in this situation will not only impact Arun but the entire team or an office that is keeping a close eye on the entire situation.
This is an ideal situation where management can stand up in favour of Amit to send a strong signal among the other staff members: ‘Yes We Care’.
An Ideal Response:
(Renu HR): Sure Amit, I know it’s a tough situation for you; you can work from home but please keep deadlines in mind. Do let us know in case you need some help from our side.
This kind of understanding can not only lift an employee but can make them further more responsible towards their jobs. Organizations go out of their way to make things comfortable and convenient for their clients, so to do the same for their employees is only going to bring them more accolades.
Employee satisfaction has been the secret of success for many organizations. All big organizations know it, Adobe India that was ranked #21 in year 2016; they worked hard on their Employees satisfaction and are seeing some exceptional results in year 2017. It’s no secret that a happy employee is far more efficient than an unhappy one.
Here are few things that organizations or small scale companies can try to see if it makes any difference to iteration rate:
1) Allow Flexible Working Hours
2) Give health insurance benefits
3) Paid long duration leaves on occasions like Wedding or Paternity
4) Team parties every few days to keep things relaxed at office
5) Family Day, where employees can bring over their family members into the premises
6) Regular and biased One on One sessions with HR team
Of course, HR managers can suggest few more tips on this but the main thing is to understand what form the crux of the company? Or what will make an employee perform better: A strict guidelines of rules & regulations or complete creative freedom? Yes you need some decorum in the premises but you can always figure a way to be more flexible.

7 年Totally agree with you. HCL is a big example when it comes to Indian companies that focus on putting employees first. CEO of HCL says that employees comes before customers, because when employees are happy, they keep the customers happy. :)
