Indian education needs a 'logic' revolution

The Indian education system needs reform. On that, we can all agree.

Even as India embarks on a journey to transform early childhood education, from the traditional rote learning method to a more holistic approach, we are perhaps missing out on one of the most crucial skills needed in the 21st century: logical reasoning.

The need for logical reasoning

Logical reasoning is the backbone of 21st century life, necessary for any STEM-based field like AI, Robotics, and Coding. All entrance exams across domains like Design, UPSC, IIT and B School all contain major logical reasoning components. It is tested on most job tests, and ranked as one of the most crucial skills for employability.?

And yet, children in India often learn logical reasoning very late in life, usually after high school or in college while they prepare for their entrance exams. We might be missing a trick here - the best time to teach logical thinking as an explicit skill may well be early childhood.

Starting early with logic education

Unlike science and maths, which involve teaching a vast amount of knowledge to children, logical reasoning is innate, tapping into the inherent curiosity present in every child. A trove of research corroborates that teaching logical reasoning early leads to best results.?

A child's creativity peaks at age 6, which may not come as a surprise to those of us who have faced the incessant questions asked by children who are discovering the world around them. As children are learning to explain the phenomena they see, introducing a logical and analytical framework often leads to surprising results.?

They develop critical thinking and problem solving skills that are beneficial throughout their lives, no matter what they choose to do. It's not just a tool for academic or career success - it's an invaluable skill to navigate the modern world.

Logic - the 21st century 'superpower'

When children learn to recognise patterns, understand cause and effect, and deduce information from facts, their brain is essentially gaining superpowers. This improves skills like memory and concentration, helps them make sound decisions, and provides a solid foundation for understanding complex concepts later on.?

In the age of Instagram and TikTok, teaching logical thinking also helps improve attention spans and give children a toolkit to think through complex problems.

Research has found that nurturing logical thinking from an early age contributes to overall development, academic success, and effective problem-solving throughout life. While this does help improve exam results and makes students more employable, it also helps them to be better human beings, and more conscious of the world around them.

The LogIQids solution

At LogIQids, we have tried to solve this problem across ages, from 6 to 15. It's best to start early, but it's never too late to start. Brain training exercises help children gain important skills in a friendly, gamified way that makes them excited to learn.?

Regular progression from easy to difficult problems, with explanations for every answer and every step, helps them slowly expand their capabilities at a pace they are comfortable with.

To date, our efforts have helped over 1 million students from over 2000+ schools realise their true potential - at no cost to parents. As we continue on this journey in the hope to transform lives, our only ask is: think logically!
