The government will soon be able to seize the assets of fugitive businessmen like Vijay Mallya and Nirav Modi. That’s because the Parliament has passed the Fugitive Economic Offenders Bill, which empowers investigative agencies to confiscate properties of absconders even before they are convicted. The objective? Getting white-collar criminals to stand trial in India. Earlier, Mint reported that as many as 31 economic offenders have fled abroad to avoid prosecution, and they collectively owe Indian lenders and public institutions ?40,000 crore.

The CBI has sought the whereabouts of PNB fraud-accused Mehul Choksi from Antigua. PTI reports that the investigative agency cited the Interpol's diffusion notice against the fugitive businessman and asked for details of his movement and present location. Earlier, reports said that Choksi secured citizenship in the Caribbean nation in November last year (much before the PNB scam surfaced) with an investment of just ?1.3 crore. The Antiguan passport gives Choksi visa-free access to 132 countries, according to Business Today.

The on-road prices of cars and two-wheelers will increase from September. The Supreme Court has asked insurance regulator Irdai to make multi-year third-party insurance mandatory at the time of the vehicle’s sale. Cars will be covered for at least three years and two-wheelers for five years, either as a separate insurance policy or as part of the comprehensive cover. Only a third of the 18 crore vehicles plying on Indian roads have third-party insurance. Earlier, Bloomberg reported that the country sees more than 1,50,000 fatalities in traffic accidents every year.

Zomato, Swiggy and UberEATS have more than doubled the salaries of their delivery staff. Economic Times reports that food delivery executives now earn ?40,000-50,000 a month, thanks to the increments and heftier incentives, compared with ?18,000-20,000 previously. But that has made life difficult for e-commerce firms and online grocery retailers, who are facing higher attrition. According to blue-collar jobs site AasaanJobs, the average salary of food delivery executives has risen by 60-80% over the last two years because of a surge in demand.

Virat Kohli makes up to ?82 lakh for every sponsored post on Instagram. The Indian cricket team captain – who has over 23 million followers on the photo-sharing platform – ranks 17th worldwide on the app’s Rich List, compiled by HopperHQ.com. The top spot is held by American celebrity Kylie Jenner, who rakes in around $1.1 million per post. Footballers are among the best-paid athletes, with Portugal’s Cristiano Ronaldo earning $750,000 per post and Brazilian striker Neymar making $600,000.
