India is set to receive next-generation nuclear fuel this summer, as revealed by Alexey Likhachev, head of Russia's state nuclear corporation, Rosatom. Likhachev emphasized India’s significance as a key partner in the nuclear sector during his address, reported Russia Today (RT).
On Thursday, Atomic Energy Commission chairman Ajit Kumar Mohanty, alongside the Indian ambassador to Russia, Vinay Kumar, was hosted by the Russian Atomic Chief in the Tomsk region of Siberia. They visited the fourth-generation site that will house the safest atomic reactor to date, according to RT-India.
The visit included a tour of the Pilot Demonstration Energy Complex (PDEC) in Seversk, part of the "Proryv" ("Breakthrough") strategic industry project. Both Russian and Indian nuclear leaders engaged in comprehensive discussions on future cooperation in the nuclear field.
Likhachev expressed Rosatom's readiness to expand collaboration with India, highlighting several key areas: the construction of Russian-designed high-capacity nuclear power units in India, implementation of land-based and floating low-power generation projects, advancements in the nuclear fuel cycle, and non-power applications of nuclear technologies.
During the visit, Mohanty and Ambassador Kumar also explored potential areas of collaboration with regional governor Vladimir Mazur, including pharmaceuticals, high technology, education, and research. At Tomsk State University, Ambassador Kumar delivered a lecture on "India-Russia relations in the current global scenario" and met with Indian students from various universities in Tomsk.
