India has the third largest Education system globally, after China and the US, with more than one million schools and 20,000+ Higher Education Institutions.
Post pandemic, several key trends are visible in the education sector, the number of students studying abroad has risen significantly, and there is more awareness about the importance of education and upskilling among people. All of which highlight the fact that there are enormous investment opportunities in the Indian Education sector.
On the flip side, there is a low employability index and massive unemployment among the graduates.
Fixing the problem involves the development of skills and adequate educational infrastructure, for which the government has announced various steps aimed at unlocking these opportunities and enabling skill development in youth.?
Union Education and Skill Development Minister’s Statement:
Mr. Dharmendra Pradhan, Union Education and Skill Development Minister, has made some crucial comments on the education sector in India.
He said, “India is open to inviting capital from everywhere to provide quality education infrastructure to 255 million youth in the 15-25 age group and take the Gross Enrolment Ratio (GER) for Higher Education from 27% to 50% within the next 10 years”.
Pradhan added that India is working with a 2030 timeline in mind, keeping in sight its demographic advantage, to augment quality, capacity, and infrastructure in the Education Sector.
He also stated that UGC's preliminary work regarding the same is completed, and consultations are on with various stakeholders for implementation.
