Chillies were brought to India by Portuguese in the seventeenth century.
They have become integral part of our cuisine & Kitchen at present.
The variety of chillies grown in different parts of India is huge.
Kashmiri chillies are known to be mild & add exotic red colour to our dishes.
Byadagi chillies are grown in a town by the same name in Karnataka. They are known for their colour & pungency.
Where as Dalle Khursani is grown in Sikkim & extensively used for pickles. I get my Dalle pickle regularly from Sikkim House in New Delhi.
Other varieties in India include Guntur chillies which are largely exported. Khola chillies from Goa are used to prepare famous Recheado masala for Goan dishes. Other varieties are namely Dhani from Manipur, Tomato chilli from Andhra Pradesh & Kanthari chillies from Kerala.
I have just ordered today chilli seeds for Bhut Jolokia & Dalle Khursani which I intend to grow in my farm this season.
Chillies are easy to grow & need a lot of sunlight for a healthy growth. They grow well in warm places with a minimal effort.
