India: an emerging power

India: an emerging power

"Faith is the bird that feels the light when the dawn is still dark" -? Rabindranath Tagore.

Hearing the success stories of nations like Singapore and South Korea who achieved remarkable growth and development despite facing challenging circumstances after gaining independence from colonial rule, made me wonder why isn’t the same with India?

But at the same time, I am grateful and proud to be a citizen of a Sovereign Socialist Secular Democratic Republic India. Unlike nations like Afghanistan, North Korea and the Democratic Republic of the Congo, India has successfully navigated its complex mosaic of cultures, languages, and religions, standing as a testament to the strength of diversity and unity.

Over the past decade, India has undergone a transformative phase characterised by substantial economic, social, and geopolitical advancements, coupled with sweeping policy reforms. We no longer scale a country’s progress just in terms of primary metrics like healthcare, education, national security, infrastructure, employment, and allocation of resources like food, water, housing etc. We have also emphasised and strategically transformed non-conventional sectors and spaces like digitalisation, global diplomacy, technology, culture, tourism and innovations.

Stating 10 key accomplishments of India in the past 10 years:

  1. A significant digital transformation, with increased smartphone users, 5G internet penetration and trailblazing UPI adoption. Initiatives like Digital India have improved online frameworks, digital literacy, and e-governance.
  2. India demonstrated its robust healthcare during difficult times of COVID-19 not only with swift vaccination drives, the CoWIN platform within the country but it also helped nations around the globe. The Ayushman Bharat health insurance program provided affordable and accessible medical services to countrymen.?
  3. With the introduction of the New Education Policy 2020, India has been working on educational reforms like skill-based training, digital infrastructures including E-content, virtual labs, platforms like DIKSHA and SWAYAM, standards of online and various blended modes of learning etc.
  4. Alongside the G20 presidency, India has stood out as a global leader with its own independent stance and strong diplomatic ties with various countries and international organizations.
  5. India grew itself as one of the world's fastest-growing economies, marked by an average annual GDP growth of approximately 7%. Landmark economic reforms, including the introduction of the Goods and Services Tax and the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code have created new momentum of growth, streamlined business processes and enhanced economic efficiency.
  6. Continuing the legacy of "Incredible India" various initiatives like the unveiling of the Statue of Unity, the inauguration of Ram Mandir and the promotion of beautiful beaches of Lakshadweep Island have not only bolstered the nation's tourism sector but also served as catalysts for showcasing India's rich cultural heritage on the global stage.
  7. India's startups, fueled by "Make in India" and technological innovations, propel the nation to global prominence along with job creation and creating a robust entrepreneurial ecosystem.?
  8. Many Comprehensive infrastructure development projects, such as Bharatmala, Gati Shakti National Master Plan, Smart Cities Mission have contributed to enhanced connectivity and overall development through the fast-paced construction of many national highways, metro lines, railway systems, airports, bridges, tunnels and waterways.
  9. India exhibits zero tolerance for terrorism, abrogation of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir and building a robust defence force to leverage national security.
  10. India has made significant strides in women's empowerment with equal rights and opportunities, legal reforms, initiatives and reservations to foster an inclusive and equitable society. Let’s take a moment to celebrate Nari Shakti taking centre stage at the 75th Republic Day procession and appreciate the commendable success of people-driven campaigns like Swatch Bharat Abhiyan, building toilets, awareness and support for menstrual health.

Bonus- India’s progress and achievements in fields like space research programs and successful projects like Mangal mission, Chandrayaan, stem innovation, healthy lifestyle promotion with yoga and organic food, sound victories in international games and sports tournaments, adoption of renewable energy, production of defence technologies have all proven a testament to our potential and our intension of prioritising holistic as well as inclusive development.?

Today, India is emerging as a beacon, drawing global attention with its dynamic presence. As the world's largest youth demographic population, it wields significant influence, with foreign policies that will foster international trade. Upholding its stance on global issues, we command respect on the world stage, asserting its values and interests. With a vibrant economy and diverse culture, India stands as a symbol of growth and opportunity leading and influencing to evolve and shape as a superpower.

While we celebrate significant achievements, there remain critical areas necessitating attention. Internal stability requires diligent efforts to address regional disparities and social unrest. Reforms in the judiciary system are imperative to ensure impartiality and expedite justice delivery. Regulating unbiased content awareness is essential for fostering societal harmony and promoting accurate information dissemination. Revamping the educational system and curriculum is vital to equip future generations with relevant skills and knowledge. Additionally, upliftment initiatives for disadvantaged groups must prioritize inclusivity, ensuring equitable opportunities without hampering overall societal progress.

India is currently in its golden period, poised to take a quantum leap in its development journey. At this high time, the active involvement of our youth and citizens is paramount. Their dedication drives innovation, economic growth, and social harmony. By actively engaging in governance, entrepreneurship, and community initiatives, they contribute to addressing challenges and fostering sustainable development. Their efforts not only fortify the nation's foundation but also promote unity and progress. I look forward to the journey of our young nation with an old civilisation towards a vibrant future.
