The Independence of the Girl Child

Annually, the 11th of October is always celebrated by UNICEF to every girl child in the world and to remind every girl child, that they are never forgotten. It reminds them that their roles are still very much important as it is for a male child, Thereby, promoting gender equality and woman empowerment in the world.

The progress of every girl child is just as needed as the male child. The girl child is seen most times known for being present in the kitchen and the household chores of her family, while ignorantly, neglecting her dreams to add value to society just like the male child.

This is why the enlightened personalities of the world have ensured that the girl child is not only tied to the kitchen and generally the household, but she is free to make a decision to come out of her nutshell to change the world and make her impact.

She can only do that by getting the basic learning requirements by going to schools to receive a quality education, enjoy and utilize the structures and learning facilities of the school environment.

She is also encouraged to go into the diverse sector she wishes to fulfill her dream and create her landmark which other generations will follow. Sectors like healthcare, business and finance, politics, education and so much more need a girl child which makes persons in each sector realize the worth of having a girl child around.

Apart from letting her dreams be fulfilled, it also eradicates gender-based violence which girls have had to endure from ancient times till now. This violence is slowly but surely decreasing in society today, as gender quality is being promoted even today. Seminars and unique personalities have showcased the true power of a girl child in the world, the likes of Mary Slessor, Sojourner Truth, Susan B. Anthony, Dora Akunyili, Fumilayo Ransome-Kuti, and Chimamanda Adichie.

They have all proved that every girl can achieve her dreams and at the same time perform her duties in the home. This is encouraging today’s generation and upcoming ones to do far better than the previous generation did as a girl child.

Especially, with the digitalization of this century, girls are also striving to learn how the digital era works and hope to do better with each use of the digital skills acquired. Today, the girls and women of today, now use the laptop, and every other types of equipment or machine related to the digital era.

It has been said that whatever a man can do, a woman can do too. This has sure proven it, that the girl child can successfully perform any tasks she put her mind to.

I am proud to be a girl child, because with my little experience, focus and consistency, I have conquered and can conquer anything I lay my hands to do and will be sure to do it well.

Do mention a girl child and wish her,

A Happy Independence Day as a Girl Child!
