Independence Day 2023: Key Highlights From PM Modi’s Speech

Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi addressed the nation from Red Fort on the occasion of 77th Independence Day, 15th August. PM Modi unfurled the Indian flag at 7:30 am and matched the record of former Prime Minister of India, Shri Manmohan Singh. During his Independence Day speech, he spoke on various topics, including Manipur and Women’s increasing participation in STEM.?

PM Modi began his speech by paying tribute to all the freedom fighters who contributed their pivotal role in India’s freedom struggle.?

1. PM Modi on Violence in Manipur

During his Independence Day speech at Red Fort, PM Modi spoke about the ongoing violence in Manipur. When addressing the nation, he stated that the Central and State Government has been taking action to maintain peace.?

"The whole country stands with the people of Manipur. Peace is the only way to resolve all disputes. The Centre and the Manipur government are making every effort to ensure peace returns to the state at the earliest," PM Modi articulated. Shedding light on India’s unity in diversity, Modi said that we are so united that if there is some problem in Manipur, Maharashtra feels the pain.?

2. PM on Extreme Weather Conditions

The PM stated on natural calamities that have caused an unimaginable crisis in several parts of India this year. He sympathized with all the families and pledged to offer combined support from Central and State Governments to help affected people rebuild their lives.?

3. Increasing Participation of Indian Women

In his 15th August speech, Shri Narendra Modi shed light on women's increasing participation in various sectors. He said that women in India are now taking part in STEM,? Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics, more than ever. He further appreciated the self-help women groups and his aim to make over two crores of “Lakhpati Didis.”?

4. Aim to Empower Middle Class

The Indian PM highlighted his focus on empowering the middle class and women-led development. He pledged to strengthen the country's middle class in the forthcoming years.?

5. Empowered Border Villages

Signifying the importance of empowered border villages, the PM stated that border villages are not just the last in India but also the first. He highlighted the government’s flagship “Vibrant Villages” initiative and its role in transforming the border areas and nearby villages.?

6. Reform, Perform, and Transform

The PM thanked the people of India for believing in his government and making them into power in 2014. He added that "reforms, perform, and transform" are the prime goals of the Modi government and underlined that his government every second thinks on development and utilizes every penny to make India a better country.?

7. Change in World Order

Remembering the COVID-19 pandemic era, the PM stated that the world has started rethinking after the global pandemic. A new geopolitical equation has emerged, just like we see after the World War.?

8. No “Ifs and Buts” in the Growth of the Nation

Hinting on India’s glorious future, Modi said that now the world has no “ifs and buts” when it’s a matter of development and growth of India. After the global pandemic, COVID-19, holistic healthcare emerged as the need of the hour, resulting in the global acknowledgment of Yoga and Ayush.?

9. Launch of Vishwakarma Yojana

PM Modi informed the nation about the "Vishwakarma Yojana," earmarking the initial fund allocation of Rs 13,000 to Rs 15,000 crore in September. The scheme was announced in Budget 2023 and aims to benefit those who possess traditional skills.?

10. Economic Growth

PM Modi said that when we came into power in 2014, India was in 10th position in the global economic system. Today, with the efforts of 140 crores of people in India, we have reached the fifth position. This has not happened just like this, but our government stopped the leakage and created a strong economy.

11. Vishva Mitra (Friend of the World)

Modi also said that India has been acknowledged as Vishva Mitra, a friend of the world, and the nation is laying a strong foundation of global welfare. He further added that it is Modi’s guarantee that in the next five years, India will be in the top three countries in terms of economy.?

12. Corruption, nepotism, and appeasement

Speaking on corruption, PM Modi stated that our government weeded out ten crores of fake beneficiaries of government schemes, and the seizure of ill-gotten assets increased by 20 times. The corruption has significantly impacted the growth of the country, and the PM affirmed his dedication to battling against corruption. He also spoke on the politics of appeasement, which harms social justice, and underlined the government's determination to have zero tolerance against all kinds of corruption. PM Modi further added that dynastic parties work with the mantra of “party of family, my family and form the family.”
